We went to several meetings regarding a tiny home community that Janet Ashforth was trying to organize. We left a refundable deposit and now that we are not interested she will not give us our money back, we have multiple emails stating she will but now she will not return our calls or return our emails. when you call her she says it is not her. We do not know how many more people she has done this to , we do not want more people to have to go through this. She is a fraud and we are reporting this to everyone . We want the word to get out! Please do not give habitats tiny homes money.

We were supposed to be refunded if we weren't satisfied with the location of the property in which our tiny house would reside. She had changed location on 3 separate occasions. The second location we were kept in the dark. The 3rd property I was not satisfied with the location. In asking for the deposit I was told that the expiration on such a request had long passed, based on the first property that had never closed.

I paid a refundable deposit for a space on March 31st, 2016. I still have the receipt- it does not give a term for refunds, I actually asked about the refunds a couple times through this process. I even asked at the meeting in front of everyone about refunds and Janet said that the time of refunds had passed but because of the location change if I would be patient a refund would be provided if I ended up asking for it. I'm sure if you asked anyone who was there I voiced my concern about the location just being too far from my work to make it feasible. I even voiced my concern about the distance when it was going to be in Valley Center area, this is not a new concern and literally that is the ONLY reason I am asking for a refund. My house will be done in a few months and would have loved to live in the community.

Throughout the process the location has changed several times, however the final location Poway was never mentioned as a possible location-or I would have asked for my deposit back then.

On July 22nd I was sent an email that said the following. Why would this not apply to the "ACTUAL" finalized location?

Our next email update will be sent out when the property goes into escrow. At that time we will reveal the finalized location, allow visits to the property, and send out contracts, etc. If the location doesn't work for you, you will still have the opportunity to cancel your space and receive a refund. We do have a waiting list for people who are waiting for a space.

Janet has since disappeared and I want my deposit back of $1000.

I had interest in this womans company because i was looking for a more affordable housing option since i was pregnant with our first child. We did a bit of research & thought the habitats tiny homes owned by Janet ashforth was a possibly suitable living arrangement, issue is the website is very bland and non informative. The page claims due to so much interest they are only disclosing certain important info to people who place a $1000.00 deposit on their tiny home. We placed our deposit and it was MONTHS before we even heard from her , we then finally got our opportunity to get answers we paid for and when we went she had changed 80% of the information that she posted online prior to our decision on placing deposit one being location , other being toilet options we had a flush option that was not available anymore she said if u arent comfortable with the new zone rules of the facility ill refund the depsoit we said yes we would like that.

Also she said the only financing option is to go find our own loan and give her 50% upfront! We said we cant qualify for a loan like that but would talk to our parents and see . she said if it dont work out ill cut you a check for the deposit. We emailed her and called her many times she began acting rude and vulgar and we soon realized she was avoiding paying us back by making up more and more stipulations on the return of our money. We had played it her way for months now and finally when it became undeniable she was a con artist she began ignoring us all together . now we have lost our $1000.00 deposit that is rightfully ours and was promised to be returned . i hope she gets investigated and has to pay back triple what she has stolen from innocent people trying to get a home. Im certain she has done this to most of her customers probably more then less .The BBB needs to help us and i need otherd to step forward and participate in suing her or whatever we must to expose this woman who i looked and now is requiring $ 1500 deposit and has changed the location 3 times with no progress in tye build its all a lie no community is being purchased . she only had successfully done homes for people that dont plan to live on the facility and the deposit is for your spot in this community she is building.
