Buyer Beware!! GreenLink is at it again!

This week I received a letter in the mail about a loan I was qualified to receive at a low interest rate. Normally I would do thorough research but they did a great job on making everything look legit!

After talking with my wife for a bit, I decided to phone them. When I phoned I was told it was a simple interest loan with an interest rate of 5.49%. I asked if there were early pay off penalties. They assured me there were no penalties.

Madelline wanted way too much information and became a little indignant when I was reticent in giving her all the information she requested. I asked on several occasions if they would do a hard inquiry on my credit. She assured me they did a “soft” inquiry. She even explained that the difference between a soft and hard inquiry; the soft being with only one of the three national credit agencies.

Frankly, I did more of the questioning than did she. As we were talking, she asked for my social SSN. At this point, I was not too exasperated and gave her my SSN. She explained that they needed all of my personal information because this was an unsecured loan.

After that, I quickly became uncomfortable and I told Madelline that I was not interested in the offer. Here’s where it gets very interesting.

The next morning, I was alerted that my credit score had changed because of a hard hit on my credit. I immediately checked, and discovered the company that did the inquiry. I called them and asked who gave them permission to check my credit. Well, you guessed it … GreenLink Financial.

At 1:36 pm, I called the direct number Madelline had given me early on in case we were disconnected. She answered and remembered me and our conversation. She reminded me that I refused their offer. I agreed, and reminded her that I never gave my permission for GreenLink to check my credit. I reminded her that before I refused the offer, she told me on more than one occasion that it would be a soft hit. She said that someone in underwriting needed more information. I nearly jumped out of my chair!

I then asked her the result since they had run my credit and the amount of my loan! She told me to call her back in two hours. I returned the call at 3:01 pm and got no answer. I have not heard from GreenLink since.

I am utterly disgusted! I plan on filing reports with the BBB, consumeraffairs.com. and with the fraud division of my State Attorney General’s Office.

Great Company!

Skeptic is probably the best word to describe me. I get five or six mailers each week from companies promising to solve my debt problems. But I was being crushed by high interest credit cards and installment contracts with a couple of the big box stores and didn’t know what my options were so I figured, “What the hell.”

My loan representative was Ben. Before she asked me for any of those things you’re never supposed to give over the phone to someone you don’t know we talked about my situation and what my goals were. It was only when a debt consolidation loan made sense that we started the application. It was easier than I thought it would be and it didn’t put another inquiry on my credit report. I was quickly approved for $78,000 with a payback over 5 years.

The money came fast, faster than I thought it would, and went directly into my checking account where I could start using it right away. Once I received my funding Ben followed up to make sure all of my questions had been answered. Started as a skeptic, but ended up a satisfied customer.

GreenLink is playing a "game" with you

First of all, GreenLink Financial is not going to give you a loan. You may have received a letter stating that you were pre-selected for their payment saver personal loan program, but what happens when you call is this: (1) When you ask for details on the loan, the person on the other line will avoid your direct questions and insist on running a credit check, (2) you will be told that you qualify for an "in-house" program that collects money from you but does not pay your creditors, and that this is good, because it's "playing the game that everybody loves", and (3) if you insist you are only interested in a loan, you will be given to someone who will lecture you ad nauseam about the nature of compound interest vs. simple interest, tell you you should have no trouble getting a loan because of your good credit, and then hit you with a $2,000 fee (or more) to send you links to lenders that you can find for yourself on the Internet. The loans on the Internet offer interest rates at least three times higher than the one advertised in the letter. When you point this out, you will be told to read the fine print which contains the disclaimers on the back of the letter, which only says that loan approval is not guaranteed. It does not say anything about the fact that there is no such thing as the loan advertised. Suddenly, your good credit means nothing, and you will be told you are going to be in worse condition if you do not accept their "help." The fact is, if you fall for their "program," you will be in worse condition, to the tune of at least $2,000. (By the way, their representatives are illiterate and do not keep appointments, so they are not in a position to convince you of their reliability or trustworthiness.) If I want to pay a high rate for a personal loan, I can certainly find one myself. I don't need to pay a third party a huge fee. GreenLink will not offer you a good loan, because it does not offer loans. It will not find you a good loan, but it will charge you $2,000 plus to send links you can find (and probably have found) on the Internet. Just say no and walk away. Don't even bother, unless you're a glutton for being lectured and manipulated by predators who want to make your situation worse. (By the way, you should expect your credit rating to go down on your credit report, because it has been pulled.)

I received an offer in the mail from Greenlink for a debt consolidation loan to "pay off high interest credit cards." My initial contact with them seemed reasonable. They wanted typical financial and personal information. The representative promised to get back to me with an offer the next day. Two days later I called them.

What they offered me was not loan, but a debt reduction program in which they would negotiate with my creditors to reduce the amount I owe. This would terminate my credit and ruin your credit rating--which the Greenlink representative was excellent.

The mailing they sent me was about lowering my interest rate. It showed an example of a Current Debt Balance of $45,000, typical interest rate of 16% and a payment of $1,350.

Then it showed how their "Payment Saver Loan Program" [emphasis added] would save money. It showed a "Consolidated Loan Amount" [emphasis added] of the same $45,000, a new interest rate of 5.49% and a new minimum payment of $647.

This is pure bait and switch. The mailing clearly refers to making loans, but the program is a debt reduction program where they negotiate with your creditors to reduce your balances then you pay the money into an escrow account every month. You no longer have credit and your credit rating is ruined.

run run as fast as you can

They will ask you for your info and "hard" hit and destroy your credit. Then charge you for their service to negotiate with your loaner. Give you unrealistic promise of the remaining balance. If your loaner do not agree with the negotiation you end up paying the whole amount and their service fee minimum $2000.

Green Link Financial sent me a look alike check in the mail claiming they would lend me up to $100,000 with 5.49% interest.

General rule: If it looks to good to be true , it's not true. This is also the case with this company. It's a scam to get you to do their debt reduction program and be assured they would charge you for it. When I applied and told them I had looked them up on the internet and was only interested in a loan, they told me not to apply. Imagine that!

So, I would not trust this company with any financial matter. If they are willing to lie to get you to call them, you have to wonder what else they will lie about.

GreenLink Financial Will Charge you a fee of at least $2,000

GreenLink will send you a letter offering an unsecured loan at a reasonable interest rate, but when you call to find out more about the loan, you will get the run-around. You will be required to give your social security number and agree to let them run a credit report, which they claim will be a "soft" hit on your credit. Then you will be told they have a great in-house program in which you pay so much money a month and your total payment will be reduced, which, of course, when you ask more about it, is nothing more than a system in which you pay a third party while your creditors go unpaid, then the third party negotiates down your overall bill. It shreds your credit. And the payments are higher than what you actually are currently paying.

If you insist on getting a loan, you will be turned over to someone who insists that your good credit will be enough. But before getting any information whatsoever about available loans, you will be required to sign a "digital agreement" which states you will pay a fee starting around $2,000 for the loan. Then all you will get is links to lenders that you can easily find on the Inernet yourself. You will have to still do all the work applying for the loan and getting the loan, but now you will have to pay GreenLink an exorbitant fee. (By the way, the loans are nothing like the one advertised in GreenLink's letters. The interest rate on those loans are substantially higher.) GreenLink will not honor the advertised loan or come close, but it will want to charge you a $2,000 or more fee. You're much better off just researching lenders on your own on the Internet.

In short, don't work with GreenLink. Go to a lender who actually offers a loan and will tell you what the loan is up front. And never pay an extra fee for a loan. That's not how loans work. Lenders get their money by charging interest. If not, they're probably not a lender, or shouldn't be.

Cannot Pay Credit Cards

I read most of the reviews and wanted to put my 2 cents in. My info: ~$45K in credit card debt and 3 unsecured personal loans. Paying ~$1200 mo. with no end in sight.

I was expecting a cc restructuring deal, but I completely understand those with concerns expecting a loan. In my situation medical bills and time out of work caused most of the issues for us. Here's the skinny: you stop paying your credit cards and they take over paying them. You will technically be in default and your credit score will take a hit for 6-8 mo but will then rise because you are making payments and NOT walking away scot free. Greenlink will negotiate a lower rate with your CC's and you will pay that amount in about 4 years (in my case).

This is only for folks who have significant debt and a high balance to credit limit - say you owe $5600 on a CC with a $7000 limit. You cannot negotiate directly with your banks because they will basically laugh in your face, FYI. I charged the debt and want to take care of my obligations but cannot at my current rates & balances.

It's not for everyone but I do have friends who did similar programs and it was a God send. Just my 2 cents.

I worked with Jake at GreenLink, and I thought I was signing up for a debt consolidation loan, he said I didn't qualify for the loan, but they had a program for people with higher credit ratings that he maybe could get me into and the underwriter was a buddy of his and he could get me approval. Before I knew it my low interest loan had me signing up for a program where they wanted me to stop paying bills that I was current on, so they could settle my debt at 0% interest. Jake actually told me this would improve my credit! They told me creditors would start calling and I would be sent to collection agencies, but it was all normal and nothing to worry about. I terminated it right away. Don't fall into this trap!

FALSE ADVERTISING

They are scammers. They suck you in with a false advertisement of getting you a low interest loan to pay off your debt. After getting your info they say they will call you back. We didn't get a call back so called them back multiple times. Direct line supposedly to Julio but couldn't even leave a message as the voice mail was full. Call main number again. Spoke to some one else, they were to check into what was going on and call back. No call back. Tried calling original fellow, finally answered but was given a bunch of crap about debt ratio blah, blah, blah. Duh, to get a handle on it and get it taken care of was why we called. Anyway they wanted to do a debt reduction, not a loan, that would ruin our good credit. They are a scam and need to be shut down!

First, let me start off by saying they are incredibly articulate and professional. Our representative, Heather was thorough and sincere. She believes in the program they push. Nothing wrong with any of this. The problem comes in with how they suck you in thinking it is a loan. Its not. They discuss an interest rate. This is misleading. Its a percentage factor fee. Meaning, that is the amount they charge on the total debt they can compile from you that they have "agreements” with banks. They give you a total, which includes the percentage fee and a monthly payment to make. Sounds like a loan right? But again, its not. They do not put this money in your bank account.

They do not disperse this money right away to your creditors. They ask you to stop paying your bills! To send your credit score in the tank, accept the fact that creditors will start collection calls and trust them... I heard that my credit was destroyed already, whats the big deal? (Not verbatim). Yes I have a lot of debt. Yes, I am only making minimum payments at the moment. However, every creditor is paid on time! If I adjust my lifestyle, curb eating out, buying on impulse and attack my smallest credit card balances one at a time, I can do this myself. Without negatively affecting my credit. I get not everyone is in my position. But tossing my credit in the tank to scam my creditors?

Not to mention my CPA pointed out that "forgiven” debt can be viewed as income. Do not fall for this if you make your payments on time. You can do this without paying a fee. It will be difficult to adjust to living within your means and may take longer than you like but it can be done! This is not a loan. Do not be misled. Know you are trashing your credit. Being in debt is not bad. Shirking the debt you created is sometimes the only way out. I get that. A loan is the best way to consolidate. This is not a good way. Bottom line.

I received an offer which I thought was the answer to my prayers to help me consolidate and get out of massive amounts of debt. However, after being told I was approved for a loan at 5.49% and an account manager would be calling me to finalize the details I got a call but nothing was mentioned about a loan all they wanted was to force and shame me into enrolling in a debt relief program. I was to stop paying my creditors and only pay them at 25%. They said that it wouldn't even affect my credit negatively yet all the documents I needed to sign said otherwise. I feel like a fool for wasting an entire day thinking i had found the answer to my family's problems. Don't be fooled the way I was.

What a joke.

I received a mailer stating I was approved for a loan, After talking to them they said they were waiting on underwriter approval and would get back to me. Well they called me back went through how much interest I was paying a 20 mins into the call said I did not qualify for a loan but If I agreed to 500 a month and close out all my accounts they could help me. This place is horrible they ruin your credit because they have you stop paying bills and then negotiate a settlement.

DON'T FALL FOR THIS TRAP

This is clearly a debt consolidation company. They WILL NOT give you a LOAN. They supposedly negotiate a lower payment with your high interest loans and creditors and you stop paying your debts. You will be instructed to send GreenLink a monthly payment for 48 months. I do have high interest debt but my debt will be paid off in a few months. I would much rather deal with my loans a little longer and be done with them. Also, I would rather keep my creditors happy and paid off. I don't want to get phone calls that my bills are not getting paid. Eventually, my credit will improve and I will do it on my own.

This is an expensive SCAM. Run!!
