Gordon Chevrolet Reviews

After a lot of thought, I decided that my mother would have wanted me to share this experience with my hometown. I greatly appreciate any additional shares, because the following story is nothing short of the truth and this sort of business practice should not be tolerated. My mom was very sick with both MS and cancer for a long time. She was practically immobile and in constant pain. She decided that one thing that would make her feel a bit better would be a more comfortable car for her boyfriend, my stepdad, to transport her in. This is the long story short version. They decided to purchase a brand new Chevy Malibu. My mother never would ordinarily splurge for herself. She was extremely careful and conscientious in regards to her finances. I remember how excited she was about this beautiful cranberry colored car having "all the bells and whistles." With my uncle's assistance, they came to the decision to lease the car as opposed to buying it. Everything was set up. My uncle went out of town for business and my mom and stepdad went to sign the papers. When they found out how much the monthly payment would be, mom was very apprehensive. The dealer told her if she put down a larger deposit, the monthly payment would be lower. So they put down an $8500 cash deposit, and traded in their other vehicle, adding $1500 to the pot...yes, you read that right. They put down a $10,000 deposit on a LEASE! My sick mother wasn't in the best mental state and my stepfather was 76 years old at the time...had my uncle been there, this never would have happened. Fast forward three weeks. My mom suddenly passed away. In the middle of planning her funeral, my uncle and I were told that because it was her name on the lease, the vehicle had to be returned immediately. We followed these instructions; I went with my uncle to the dealership, driving my mom's dream car for the first and last time. We entered the dealership expecting to be offered a reasonable compromise. However, the response we received was anything but that. We were treated with no sensitivity and after countless phone calls and meetings, we were told there was nothing they could do. Their old car was sold and the brand new car was barely driven and they would be reselling that too. They kept everything. My stepfather didn't even have a car to drive so we had to purchase a used car for him. I understand that they have done nothing illegal. I also understand that once a car is driven off the lot, its value drops. We weren't expecting a full refund of the deposit. However, I think everyone would agree that the way the dealership handled our tragic situation was morally despicable. My mother would lose her mind if she knew $10,000 of her hard earned money, money the two of them had been saving up for years, was gone in the wind. I still can't believe a business like this could continue to have loyal customers. I just thought everyone should know the sort of company they are doing business with if they decide to purchase or lease a vehicle from Gordon Chevrolet on Roosevelt Blvd. in NE Philadelphia. Thank you for reading.
