George (Georgios) Doganis Reviews

  • Oct 20, 2016

I went into contract with George (Georgios) Doganis, a self-employed home improvement contractor of 24-22 83rd Street, East Elmhurst, NY 11370 on September 2, 2016 to partially remodel my bathroom for $ 17,300. That amount included labor and all supplies and materials.

The contract specified that the work must be completed within 15 days by working uninterruptedly 5-6 days of the week and minimum 8 hours per day. I paid him $ 5,000 upon starting the job.

He did not work more than 5 hours on any day, coming at 9:30 AM at the earliest, leaving for minimum 1 hour to lunch and finishing the work never later than 4 PM, occasionally even at 3:30. He did not show up at all once for two days claiming that his truck broke down, another time for looking for supplies and several other days with different reasons. After more than a month he hardly finished half of the job working alone without a helper.

He charged me $ 750 for extras that I had to pay to make him continue the work, and it turned out that he did not do anything that was not included in the contract. He made me pay $ 4,040 for supply and various items that was his obligation to pay claiming that he had no credit card or checking account, so he could not order them but I could deduct it from the following payment. On October 5, 2016 he demanded a payment of $ 2,500 and after some argument I paid him having been scared that he was not going to continue the work and after a full month I have to start looking for another contractor.

Next day he did not show up and when I reached him on the phone, he told me to find somebody else to finish the job and hung up. He pocketed $ 8,250, owes me $ 4,042 in addition, and by breaching the contract, he put me in a position that I have to pay more than $ 10,000 to finish the job.

Beware of this contractor. He makes a good initial impression, but soon he will show his real character. He is unbelievably slow and messy; not willing to clean up, works alone without even a helper, tries to do the plumber’s job without a license to save on originally calculated expenses. He is terribly disorganized and interested only in getting your money, not to give you decent work or even to finish the job.
