IF You Don't want to be RIPPED OFF DON'T Have GCI Cable Network for Your Cable viewing......

They sent a technician to my House and later found the Problem to be one at the pole from their own equipment... The Tech turned in the old box he replaced at my house Plus the Problem wasn't my box but their connections at the pole

BUT they DIDN'T Credit my account for the old box he turned in... THEN they STOLE $200 From my bank... MONEY THEY STOLE WAS FUNDS FOR FOOD AND UTILITES.......

When called on carpet about THEIR Mistake...... THEY WANT TO PAY ME BACK WITH CREDITS TO MY ACCOUNT.. 16 monthly credits would be needed to refund the entire amount this way.... Plus it was not paid that way.. They took a lump sum and should pay a lump sum...

I'VE CALLED THEIR OFFICES 6+Times in PASS 14 days and Keep Getting they Refunded my money.... THEY DID NOT REFUND ANYTHING....

GCI and the local provider are the only options for internet service here in the Bristol Bay area. Their services already have the highest cost in the nation, and they are even higher in Rural Alaska. Most of these small communities are extremely dependant on the internet for communication and business purposes, yet they have no alternative to paying the insanely high costs and subjecting themselves to ridiculous data caps. These same companies provide much better service only miles away. The company knows they can get away with it, so they do. The Federal minimum is going up soon, so we know the plan in the ground is capable of handling much higher speeds than they will provide. We all got a taste of that when a local politician's place crashed an suddenly every carrier worked and the throughput was actually normal speed for once.

The current federal minimum is somewhere around 4mb\s, so they only give us 6 mb\s with a 40gb data cap [enough to watch a couple movies and check your email once a day] for over &180/mo!! A rate much higher that what other communities pay for a 50mb\s-1gb/s connection with a 300gb data cap and no overages.

To make it worse, the only local competition has to lease their services from the same company. Rather than try to bring some healthy competition and competitive rates, they just charge exactly the same prices. Both companies are price fixing together. In a community so subsidized by the Government and the local Native Corporations; you think that one of the two would direct a little bit of that money towards what is fast becoming [if it isn't already] a basic need.

We have a serious deficiency out here that can create huge hassles; greater expense and even cost lives. A deficiency that could be solved with very little effort. One would think this kind of monopoly was illegal in some way. It is bad enough the airlines, the shipping companies, and every other business in the area has a stranglehold on this community.

A 50mb\s data connection with a few hundred gigs of data isn't asking much for the $180 we are forced to pay for the trickle we get, and we know the capability is already here as the raising federal minimum looms only a few years away.

I get it. The point of a business is to make a profit, and that is totally fine, but if these local companies do not start trying to put a little bit back into their own communities...at this rate, our town will just continue shrinking and there won't be much of a community left. These towns are getting smaller and smaller as it is. Lets at least get some basic services in here at an affordable price and the rest of the infrastructure will pick up on its own.

Rip off for GCI in Bethel, Alaska area. GCI takes advantage of customers because they are the only provider for this rural part of Alaska. We get dropped calls alot, most small villages dont have access to 3G and internet on cell phones. Very expensive services for cell phones and especially internet and cable. The fees for cable boxes for the homes have doubled in price per month. Not all current deals are made available here in rural Alaska.

$500 off our bills

We were charge $1,300 bc we weren't told by GCI customer service when we got our contract with the them that if we go to the Lower 48 states that we need to pay $10 for nation wide coverage. We r happy that GCI was able to take off $500. Thanks again GCI for doing that.

GCI is a terrible company that takes advantage of people by adding in hidden costs and charging you for services never rendered. Unfortunately, most people in Alaska have no choice as they pretty much have a monopoly in Alaska. I signed up for nationwide coverage plan that I was told I would have coverage in the lower 48 area I was going to travel to for a few months. Not only did they not sign me up for nationwide but when I called Tech Support that I had no service they said there was "nothing they could do" which was ridiculous!

Next thing I know, they're charging me an extra $30 in roaming fees because they never signed me up for nationwide coverage like I requested. I call customer service and they argue with me telling me "everything my fault" then tell me they're gonna call me back. They never do, so I call them and get on with someone else who tells me he's given me the credits back and fixed the bill.

The bill never gets fixed, so I call in again, and the person tells me "Oh well that will be applied your next bill" so I'm thinking it will be a bill that's $30 lower right? No, they charged me $20 extra instead. So again I complain, and they say the exact same things "Oh it's all credited back....blah blah...on the next bill..." Finally my next bill is $7 cheaper....

So to recap, I was refused tech help in an area I was told they had coverage, after hours on the phone over 3 months, they end up charging me an extra $40 for services I never received, and then blamed the entire thing on me.
