Wife and I were in McKinney, TX for a Dr. appointment. Stopped in Lowe's to make a purchase and were approached in the parking lot by a pair of men in a pickup. Driver gave us this card, from Dents Out, saying he noticed a minor dent on our left front fender and could fix it "like new" except for the topcoat of paint, right there in the parking lot while we shop, for "only $250." Looked legit, so we let them have a go at it. On returning to our vehicle, we found a big swuare patch of body filler covering the dent area, no attempt to follow the fender's outlines and no sanding or anything else. Wife gave him something like $200 and they left us. Later, at home, when trying to touch up this patch, I noticed it was loose near the bottom, so had to remove the loose area to re-apply some Bondo. To my horror, I found they'd first used a dent-puller, then covered it all with cheap masking tape, before smearing on the body filler. So the whole patch was destined to fall off once the tape loosens from age and/or weather! I ended up scraping off nearly all of it, hammering down spots where they'd pulled it out too far, and re-applying Bondo body filler myself. The only good that came of this experience was the incentive to me to do my own fender dent repair job! I've since searched out these people online and find no evidence of a company by this name in Plano, Texas. There IS a company by that name in California, but no evidence that they do business in Texas. So is this a scam artist operating with stolen business cards or what? And is the solicitation of auto repairs in a business parking lot even legal in McKinney, Texas?
