Choice Hotels International, Inc. Reviews

I left immediately upon arriving as there were roaches in my room. It was yucky and smelt The desk clerk was very nice and assured me that I would receive a full refund. This was six weeks ago and I’ve yet to receive any refund.

This letter is to document a traumatic experience I had with Choice Hotels. I voiced my complaint via phone call to the Customer Service Division and the company responded with callous consideration for my welfare as stated in the company’s letter I received June 22, 2018 from Taylor, Guest Services Specialist. My profile specifically states that my disability must be accommodated when a hotel is booked on my behalf.

I arrived at the Quality Inn Suites Hotel located at Midway Airport, 7353 S. Cicero Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60629 on June 7, 2018 at 3:30 a.m. (EST). I expected to be booked until Friday, June 8, 2018. I called the hotel and spoke to a young man around 11:00 p.m. Wednesday to inform them that I would be arriving later than expected. He assured me that my room would be held and was guaranteed for two nights. Upon my arrival after driving for over 14 hours, I discovered that the room was available for one night only and the hotel was fully occupied for the second evening. I immediately called Choice Hotels to get assistance with my dilemma. I was on the phone with the representative for three hours and the problem was not resolved. She informed me that I would have to call back at 8:00 a.m. to resolve the problem. I informed her that I was extremely tired and had not slept since waking up early Wednesday morning. I went to bed at 6:00 a.m. and woke up at 8:30 a.m. to freshen up and get breakfast.

At 10:00 a.m. I called Choice Hotels again and spoke to “Stephanie”. I remained on the phone with her for two hours. After being placed on hold several times she informed me that there were no rooms available in that area and recommended that I stay at Margarita European Inn, a hotel in northern suburbs and over three hours from the graduation venue I needed to get to. I reminded her that I needed to be in a handicap accessible hotel with parking. The hotel was booked. It took me two hours to drive there and upon my arrival I discovered that there was no parking and the hotel was not handicapped accessible. The hotel was equipped with an old elevator that required a porter to operate it. There were no rooms available on the first floor. The exits and entrances from where I had to enter were very narrow and difficult to access. The stairs were stacked and difficult to climb. I was not able to stay at the hotel.

Choice Hotels was called again and informed of the fiasco and serious dilemma I now faced. I couldn’t stay at the hotel and I had to get back to the south side to attend the program that started at 6:00 p.m. The manager at the Margarita European Inn realized my frustration and immediately called Choice Hotels to inform them of the serious error they made. Choice Hotels sent me back to Quality Inn Suites at Midway Airport to a room on the 5th floor where there was no consideration or accommodations for my disability. The room I checked out of earlier on the first floor was in a much better location for my disability. It was now 3:45 p.m. I had to drive immediately to the graduation and was not able to freshen up or change into proper attire.

It is obvious by the abuse and trauma that I once again suffered at the hands of the organization that they were not concerned for me as a disabled individual or for me as a human being. Animals often receive better treatment than the treatment they provided me. The staff demonstrated an egregious disregard for my disability. They even went as far as charging me twice for the abominable conditions that were not handicapped accessible. They charged my First Master Card $75.00 and after the charge was refused payment, they charged my second Bank Master Card $75.00 even though the second Bank Master Card was not attached to my account. I am still waiting for them to refund the full amount of $75.00 that was misappropriated from my account. I did not request to stay at Margarita European Inn, a hotel that could not adequately accommodate my disability and I am not interested in receiving points for my cash payment. This will only place me in position to once again be abused by their staff. What they have done is tantamount to theft and fraud.

Further, I am also waiting for them to refund the full amount of $629.52 that I requested December 11, 2017 for the abuse and trauma I suffered by Comfort Inn Suites in Downers Grove, Illinois in November 2017.

I would not recommend Choice Hotels as an option for hotel booking services. They make promises that they don’t keep. They are not dependable, will take unauthorized funds from your credit cards, and have no respect for disabled individuals. I had two seriously bad experiences with Choice Hotels within seven months.

After sending this email 4 times and 3 separate calls they refused to make Any effort to help refund points or my money back. I accidentally made a reservation for a day early. Upon arrival the hotel said they could not switch my night even know there were rooms available. Called cust svc and they called the hotel which said they could not switch the date nor credit back my account the 30000 points which I purchased when your firm had a %50 sale($270.00). I'm so frustrated because I did not utilize the points or the cash I spent on the points and I'm getting nothing in return. Please help me figure out a fair remedy to this issue. I would appreciate that I recieve something in return for the $270.00 I used to purchase points with rather than them just saying oh well... you made a reservation in error and we're keeping your $270.00. I want the points back on my account or my money refunded. A month later this is the email they sent me: I appreciate that you took the time to give us valuable feedback about your reservation made on our website. It was disappointing to hear the experience was below expectations. We are here to make this process as seamless as possible to get your trip started on a high note. I have researched your concerns to ensure we covered all bases. Our website displays all relevant information prior to confirming, cancelling, or changing any reservation. We do hope that you will give us another chance in the future and stay with Choice Hotels. This is unacceptable..... they've made no ethical remedy considering the circumstances... very disappointed. Beware of their practices.

I am a member of the Choice Hotels reward program. After a year of using their various choice hotels and accumulating reward points, I received a call from a choice hotel representative that I had earned enough points for a 5day/4night stay at a resort of my choice within their affiliations. After being assured with it would only cost $199.00 I agreed and chose a property on the beach in St. Petersburg, Florida to take my girlfriend for Valentine's Day 2017.

Several weeks go by and I receive a second phone call, I was advised this was all a relationship between Choice hotels and bluegreen vacations which is nothing but a timeshare opportunity. I would be required to attend a 2 hour presentation for their affiliated timeshare program. I expressed no interest in becoming a time share member and was assured that I could take advantage of this mini vacation and only attend the 2 hour presentation. As the conversation continued they told me I would need a major credit card on file with them and I asked for what since I had already paid the $199? They responded simply to hold the reservation.

Shortly, I started receiving confirmations of my mini vacation with pictures of the resort. As weeks passed I confirmed my reservation for the week of Valentines 2017. Everything was set in motion for me to plan my trip and take off work. Again a little time passes and I receive a phone call on 1/27/2017 to confirm my hotel reservation only to find out that they switched hotels on me. No longer on the beach in a resort but rather a comfort inn hotel 6 miles inland with no resort amenities!!!

I soon climbed the management ladder only to find out that they were going to do nothing on my behalf but assured me they would investigate this matter and it would not happen to anyone else. So what happens to me? I had reached a boiling point and decided to start at the beginning of where this all started, which was Choice Hotels. I called Choice Hotels corporate office in the rewards department. They assured me they had no knowledge of how much of a scam Bluegreen Vacations are. He assured me I would receive a phone call today with an explanation or an adjustment to my account. Only hours later I received a phone call from Bluegreen Vacations with a refund for the full amount.

As advice to whoever reads this statement, I would say to you, there is an affiliation in someway with a hotel chain, this is where you should start with your complaint. The hotel chains seem to have some form of integrity and are unaware of the deceptive practices of Bluegreen Vacations and will go the extra mile to correct the situation whereas Bluegreen will do nothing more than give excuses and refuse refunds. Stay away from Bluegreen Vacation!

Last month I tried to make a reservation at MAINSTAY SUITES in Port St. Joe, Fl for the week of Nov 1, 2016 using some of my “privilege” points. Ha, that’s a joke.

The hotel has no vacancies for that week. However, if I change to AAA, Senior or Best Rate – I get all kinds of availability for the same time period.

So what’s going on here – they advertise buy 2 nights get 3rd night free. I have 28,470 points accumulated as of today. I switched from xxxxx to using their facilities a couple of years ago, to take advantage of this offer.

This is the first time I tried to use my accumulated points – I’m told I have to wait until 1 month before I arrive, to reserve if using points. Of course, there will never be any vacancies then at the more popular locations!

I think this is a terrible misrepresentation of their advertizing and it is – INTENTIONAL DECEPTION.

I have been staying at Suburban Lodge in Savannah,Ga for about a months now. Two weeks ago I started having issues with my scalp- very itchy and bumps started to form ( bumps are still forming).

The night before I left, I discovered what the problem was bed bugs!

I was getting ready for bed and looked at the space next to me. I saw a brown/black bug crawling on the sheet! When I picked the bug up and squashed it, I saw blood! Disgusting!!!!

I immediately jumped out of bed and pulled back the sheets. I found two bed bugs and blood stains on the sheets. I immediately took pictures. I stripped the bed and didn't see anymore bugs. I was still freaked out about the bugs but decided to stay that night anyway. It was pretty late and I knew that the manager (Peter) has a small child and didn't want to disturb them. I did however nofiy Choice Hotels via the customer service phone and email.

I decided to talk with the front desk in the morning during checkout.

I had to get to work so I wasn't present durng the checkout inspection but I did let the front desk clerk (younger Indian lady) about the bugs. Another patron was behind me and he overheard the conversaton. He asked me what did the bugs look like.

I came back later that day to finalize the checkout. The "inspection" was done without me being there. The front desk clerk didn't know that I had taken pictures of the bugs and the stains.

She must have told Peter ( front desk manager). When I came back to finish checkout and get the balance left from my deposit I l told Peter about the bugs. I attempted to show him the pictures- he glanced at them and continued to type on the computer to finalize me leaving.

There was no apology nothing. I was dimissed with a "we didn't notice that. We never had that problem." Really? I have pictures of bugs and blood stains.

He decided I guess that the best thing to do was "damage" control. He denied it. He doesn't know that I contacted Choice.

I understand wanting to protect his hotel or whatever but to be completely dismissive and to imply that I am not telling the truth is just too much.

I will never stay there again.

Time of Incident: 10:00 P.M.

Date of Incident: 11/14/2015

Location of Incident: Comfort Inn & Suites, Dallas Market Center,

7138 N. Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, TX 75247

General Manager of location: Nitin Tiwari aka Nathan Tiwari

I came to this hotel tonight at around 10 p.m. and asked if I could sit in the lobby and use the internet to see if I could find a priceline or expedia discount. The young black man behind the counter was gracious enough to say yes. Shortly after I had arrived, a white family walked into the building. The white man was complaining about how a vehicle was parked outside. He was demanding to know whose vehicle it was. I was sitting in the lobby and when he said the vehicle I spoke up and said I would move my car. However, he stood there and continued to berate me and question me in a very hostile manner about why I would park my vehicle where I did. Finally I had enough and told him I don't answer to him. He was a complete stranger. All he had to do was go the front of the hotel and speak to the young man behind the desk. But he chose to approach me on his own.

When I told him I would not answer to him like this was the "Jim Crow" south, his son and wife immediately began yelling at me from the top rafter. They then ran down and ran into my face. All of this was done IN FRONT OF the young black man who was working behind the counter. The older man then started screaming he would 'have me thrown out' of the hotel and unbelievably as soon as he said that he began screaming at the black man behind the counter who immediately picked up the phone and dialed 911 and told them "I" was creating the disturbance!? UNBELIEVABLE!

When I saw that the black man behind the counter who had saw me be approached and screamed at by all of these family members I decided to leave. He NEVER ONCE approached the white family to try to take command of the situation. He then came over and told me "I" was creating the disturbance even though the customers were screaming at ME! and that "I" would have to leave. I started to gather my belongings when the older man walked up on me in my face and his son blocked my path. His wife started hysterically running around the room screaming at me and then she ran BEHIND the desk of the front desk agent and demanded he throw me out immediately. The agent at this point refused to even look at me and simply said he was 'calling' the cops as I was getting my things to leave.

When I walked out into the parking lot, the older white man followed me screaming at me and he and his wife both ran after me yelling and badgering me. I made it to my car and had had enough and turned around to go back into Comfort Inn and ask for the managers number. When I went back into the Comfort inn, both the white guy and his son and wife were hovering around the seemingly petrified front desk agent and when I asked the agent for the number to his manager he REFUSED to look up and give it to me and he refused to say it. UNBELIEVABLE! The white man was the one screaming at me still. I still don't have the name and number of the Manager or of the corporate office.
