Chesapeake Utilities Reviews

  • Dec 8, 2016

It's freezing on the mid-atlantic coast at night.Let the wind off the Atlantic blow across the landscape and the temperature "feels like" ten to twenty degrees colder than the thermostat shows.

I telephoned Chesapeake U. and told them I'd have my paycheck clear on a Monday, after direct deposit over the weekend. Because the banks don't process deposits or debits over the weekend due to the federal reserve being closed.

The deposit would then be processed on Monday first thing in the early A.M. . And I would telephone customer service first thing Tuesday morning to make the payment.

What happens? First thing Tuesday morning their technician arrives and TURNS OFF THE GAS! And then puts the little doorknob tag on the front door.

No knock! They just let me to find out I'm going to freeze when I'm there at home and heard not a thing at my door.

I telephone after finding the tag. Here's where what I call blackmail really makes me sick.

Chesapeake Utilities is also Sandpiper energy. And they are also the owners of every natural gas provider , underground sourcing, in at least the two state area. Delaware and Maryland.

There is no one you can call that isn't them!

Chesapeake Utilities tells me that in order to have the gas turned back on I have to pay nearly $3.00 to use an automated payment system. Or go on-line and pay with a debit card. Then when I get the confirmation number I have to call CU back with that and they'll schedule the gas to be turned back on.

Here's the sick twisted blackmail part, as I call it.

IF I want to not freeze to death that same day when the sun goes down and the temperature drops, I have to pay over $30.00 extra dollars! In order to get the technician to come back and turn on the gas! (I wonder if they'll knock this time?)

OR, I can save the $30+. 00 and it will be turned on the next day!

THEN, and this is really the greed factor that is pathetic for a multibillion dollar utility, I have to pay over $100.00 deposit on top of the past due amount, the $30+.00 , before any gas gets turned on. But, if I keep my payments current for a whole year I get that $100.00 deposit + 6% interest back, credited actually to my last bill .

There's the beauty of how they get ultra rich. Anyone who has had money problems to the point they get their gas turned off CU knows will not be able to keep current for 12months on future bills.

So Chesapeake Utilities gets to keep that $100.00 , as well as that $30+.00 blackmail so that you don't freeze to death on the day because they'll then turn your gas on same day. And all that , $130+.00 is gravy besides what you actually owed past due on your gas bill.

And when you have kids you're going to pay that $30+.00 so they don't suffer . And of course all they have to do if you don't have that money is mention to a teacher that they went without heat for a day and CPS will be the next one's knocking at a parents door.

And it is all because Chesapeake Utilities/Sandpiper Energy and all their subsidiaries monopoloze the natural gas in at least the two state area.

And of course, if you want hot water.....

I could have saved over $130.00 if their technician had knocked at the door prior to disconnecting my gas. Give them a check . The money cleared first thing early A.M on Monday. But this tech. is at my door first thing in the morning before I could have gone through the steps to pay through the chargable automated system, gotten the confirmation number, and then called a custome service agent with that so as to back them off cutting off my gas.

But hey, had that all happened CU wouldn't make over $130.00 free dollars screwing their customers.

I remember this old old commercial featuring this super rich guy. He's there with his woman and they're drinking boxed wine. She looks at him and says, as rich as you are and you're drinking boxed wine?

And he says in reply, how do you think I got so rich?

Stupid commercial but it reminds me of Chesapeake Utilities/Sandpiper energy & all their subsidiaries. $100.00 deposit. $30+.00 early reconnect fee so you don't freeze to death in winter. Having the monopoly on all underground natural gas supply in at least a two state area. Maybe the entire Atlantic coast of the U.S..

HOW DO YOU THINK THEY GOT SO RICH?

SCUMBAGS! But when you're a billionaire utility who needs a conscience?
