Buyers Beware!

I placed a telephone order with Carol Wright Gifts approximately 1 week ago. After giving the agent my order I was given a total that did not sound right, when I questioned the difference in what I calculated I was told that while the advertisement in the catalog stated there were no shipping charges that there was a handling charge of $3.95. I was not particularly happy about hearing this after I had already ordered but I just accepted it. When all the processing was done I realized that the numbers still didn't add up so I called right back as I had already hung up. The second agent I spoke to pulled up my order and went over it item by item and I realized that when stating the prices he was rounding them off to the nearest dollar! I stopped him and asked him why was he doing that he said he figured he was making it easier for me, I told him he had no right to do that.

Then he told me that I was also being charged $5.90 in handling instead of the $3.95 I had been quoted at that point I asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor agreed that the agent had no right to round off my charges and that she had reprimanded him for it. She removed the handling charges and processed my order. Today May 5th, 2017 I received my order by mail. The description in the catalog of what I ordered was a Floral Lace top Silky Diamond-quilted Spread with matching Shams, the cost $59.99. I also noticed that there was a note in bold that stated additional shams could be purchased for $9.99. I wanted to see the set and be sure I liked it before ordering additional shams.

The Spread arrived but there were no Shams with it, so I called the company and after speaking with a sales agent and then a supervisor, I was told that they were sorry but the Shams actually were separate and I would have to pay an additional $25.00 for them even though the ad implied they came with the Spread and any additional shams were extra. I feel this company seems to have no problem print misleading ads, lying to customers and padding costs hoping you won't notice. They know once I got the spread without the matching shams I would have no choice but to pay extra because I really liked the spread! They actually has the nerve to challenge the fact that the ad said what it said and told me I would have to send them a copy of the catalog to prove it. I told them they have the catalog, in fact the supervisor read the ad to me and concurred that it said that but that it was in fact not true.

There has to be a feeling of fair trade and assurance for consumers that businesses cannot do whatever they want to consumers. Shopping has become an exercise in frustration and you end up feeling violated and without rights.

I ordered multiple items from Carol Wright: Pillow Shams, a bedspread and a rolling shelf. When I received the items I did not like the the bedspread or shams so these items were returned. I paid $12.71 to have them shipped back. To use their prepaid label would have been charged to me and deducted from my credit for the return items.

I paid $15.00 for the one item that I kept, which was $14.99. However, I logged into the web site to make sure that my credit had been issued, and it showed a balance of $11.93. When I called to ask what this charge was for, I was told it was for their "shipping and handling" those items to me, and since I had returned them, I still had to pay for THEIR shipping those items to me! Who does that? To me, this is the cost of doing business. I paid to have the itmes returned to them, so as far as I am concerned, that should have been it.

This is a complete RIP OFF to me and I stated as much to the young lady I spoke to. I will NOT be paying this charge. They will have to send it to collections..because I consider this a RIDICULOUS charge!

I ordered a product from Carol Wright Gifts and used their Shop Now Pay Later option so I could pay in two payments which totalled up to about 34 dollars. I was late the first month and received a bill for the total amount due of 34 dollars and sent a check through the mail to pay for the blance. They a month later thinking this account was paid in full, I received another bill for 25 dollars late fee and 1 dollar interest. I thought this was a mistake and forgot about it. Then I received a bill for 53 dollars and couldn't figure out what happened because I was sure I had paid this bill in full. There were no charges on the bill except for late fees and finance charges and so I sent a check for 53 dollars thinking it was paid in full again. So I received a third bill for 26 dollars it did show a payment of 53 dollars and then another late fee for 25 dollars and a 1 dollar fee for finance charge. I called their customer service and asked what this was all about and demanded they take off this charge and show my account as paid in full. The wonam I spoke with was very direct and kept talking while I asked what this was all about. I said I had paid this in full and was charged three times since for late fees and finance charges and she was adamant that this was their practice that was charged correctly for being late. I told her I thought that my account was closed because I had paid in full and then received these late charges and was NOT going to pay another late fee and to please take it off. I told her I would report their fraudulent practice and was really not happy.

On June 20th., 2015, I ordered a brace worn below the knee to help stop back and nerve pain in the hip area. The item was

advertised as "stopping pain and discomfort in the back and hip area". The product was as phony as the company! The company charged me $ 14.99 for the product, $ 8.75 for express shipping, handling $ 3.95 and $1.95 "IF" the item was lost in the mail to replace the item! A grand total of $ 29.64! I tried the product and it was nothing but "Snake Oil" from the get go! I returned the item to Carol Wright Gifts and they received the item on June 22, 2015. I did not receive a refund until 15 days later on July 7, 2015 ! Iwas told by their "Customer Service" that I would receive a complete refund but after checking my account found out that I had only been given a $ 7.00 refund out of the $ 29.64 they owed me! I reported them to the local BBB in their city and they refunded my total $ 29.64 that was due me. They made it sound like it was all my fault but I sent the BBB a reply to their "game" and said that they had been reported to my credit card company and were on their list as a company that does "fraudulent business on the internet"! I also went on to ask them to "black list" Carol Wright Gifts on their site and records! All in all, my advise is "do not do business with Carol Wright Gifts" and if ordering on line from a company, first investigate them through their local BBB or any other orginization that might have info about the companys business practices and complaints filed against them. Final advice, "buyer beware", especially on the Internet. Thank you
