I was contacted on April 1, 2019, a message was left by a Marshall Johnson to contact him at 323-800-2449 and failure to respond will result in further proceedings. I called back today April 2, 2019 and a man named Preston answered. I asked the name of the company which is Brockton, Turner and Reynolds.

I told him my name, he looked up my information and proceeded to tell me that he was "hired" by Citi-Financial to collect an outstanding debt over $4000. I told him it was an old debt and I was not paying it,(10 years old) he said it didn't matter how old it was that I was still legally bound to pay the debt and if I did not then I would be sued. I argued with him about the law on old debt and he hung up on me.

I called back and asked for the address of his place of business and he refused and would only give me the website address, I asked three times for the address but he kept giving me the website address of btrconsulting.net. I looked on the website, it's very generic and provides no information about the company and what they do nor an address.

I called back an hour later and a woman answered and I asked for the address, She refused and said if I had no business there then I didn't need the address. I did tell her the reason I wanted the address was to send a letter requesting them not to contact me in the future, she told me to block their number and hung up on me. After this I called Santander Finance which took over the loan in question from Citi-Finincial. They sold the loan to Certegy which sold the loan to Gemini.

This debt is 10 years old meaning, its been over 10 years since a payment was made. At no time have I contacted any of these companies to make payment arrangements. In the state of Tennessee the statue of limitations to sue on debt is 6 years, this debt has been off of my credit report for 5 years now. The person I spoke with at BTR claims I indeed have to pay and if I don't I will be sued and he even said he turned in the paperwork to get the lawsuit started.

I told him that's fine because I will counter-sue I filed a complaint with Consumer Affairs, this company broke many laws with their conversation with me. This is not how you do business. I'm hoping others will see this and not fall prey to their unscrupulous tactics.

Same thing happened to me.

A lady called me and said if I didn’t pay a 9 year old payday loan I would have a felony warrant. It was for $323.00 but they wanted to charge me $1,100.00. I paid them out of fear but stopped payment after they ran my card without permission. So I filed reports with the FTC, Consumer Affairs, the county’s sheriffs office where I reside and the county where their office is.
