Best Movers of America Reviews

  • Oct 31, 2019

Regarding what was damaged; The very first question that I asked Laura (Best Movers of America moving consultant) before moving on to the next moving company was; " Do you have crating service for a motorcycle?" and she responded "yes, for an additional fee of $350 it would be taken care of."

When my items were picked up in TN I asked if they were going to cate it now sine they would be moving it to their warehouse in Atlanta and then reloaded onto a larger truck, and I was told again they would crate it at the warehouse in Atlanta. They wrapped it with a number of moving blankets and strapped it down and insured me it would be well taken care of.

When my items arrived in CA it was very clear that what I was told, and paid for clearly didn't happen. For starters the motorcycle was loaded with everything pushed up against it including items piled on top (eg. the small washer machine was pushed up against the fuel tank of the motorcycle (metal to metal) with the handlebars of the bike leaning on top of the washer.

Not even a single furniture pad was used on the motorcycle in attempt to provide protection. In other words there was no attempt made to protect any of the items damaged during transport which resulted in significant damage to the motorcycle and items around it. The driver was apologetic and commented he has never seen something so poorly loaded.

I attempted to reach out Laura on a number of occasions (see email attachments), and again, no response. I was connected to Fernando who sent me a text where I could send pictures. Pictures were sent (6/8/2019). After two weeks I called again ads was directed to David who threatened that if I "keep calling" he would not help process a claim.

He then proceeded to tell me that the motorcycle was just scratched, and still drivable therefore not a big deal (I filed a complaint with customer service due to lack of professionalism and rude behavior from David, and no response from Laura after numerous attempts). About 2-3 days after my conversation with David I was able to re connect with Fernando who referred me to a third party claims office where I spoke with Michelle (6/18/2019) 770-858-5202, and was told to call back latter, to give her time to review the claim.

I followed up the next day and was given a website to submit a claim and now I am now waiting for a response from the claim office for a resolution.

In short, I paid to have a service provided which involved crating my motorcycle to protect it from damage, and packing/and loading items and at the very least make some attempt to protect them from damage during transport of which none was done. Due to negligence, and failure to fulfill what was agreed, and paid for, resulted in damage to the motorcycle and items around it.

There was attempt to pad or protect items above when loaded. Not a single furniture pad was use as I watched the driver unload them off the truck!

They low ball your estimate then blame you for having more stuff then you said. I can't control what they put on the estimate and for all I know they changed it after I electronically signed. I don't see how that can stand up because it's not a real signature. I knew that they hired a different company to come move your stuff.

I wasn't able to be there because they couldn't come on the original date and I had to leave. When they did come they told my mom that it would be over a $1000 more than the quote. That company also charged $110 to pack my lamps which arrived broken anyway. That's a whole other complaint. You can't get a hold of customer service after hours or on the weekend.

You have to text the sales person then you will get a call back from a customer service manager. Once you get your stuff delivered they won't talk to you anymore. I called on a Saturday during business hours back to back like 20 times and no answer. I finally texted the sales person and the manager. Finally got an email from customer service saying that they can schedule a call from the manager on that Monday.

I talked with someone who listened and seemed nice. Said she would find out with the moving company if I was charged weight or cubic square feet. Never heard from her again. I tried to dispute one part of my deposit with my credit card company because they weren't willing to try and help. I fell like I should be reimbursed for part of my deposit. I didn't get the service that they were claiming to give.

All they want is your money and when they receive that they could care less about you. All they had to do was let that one charge go and they won't even do that. I hope more people complain and write in to the BBB because they don't do good business at all. I even expressed that I wanted a different moving company and apparently they only use one because I still had the same company that couldn't come the first time.

This is the worst company ever. If they read this all you have to do is have good customer service and refund me something for my aggravation and poor service that I received and they don't even want to do that. This company should not be in business at all.

They treated our furniture and belongings with gross negligence resulting in 90% being damaged. They do not respond to phone calls, emails, or texts once they have your initial deposit. The movers charged us an additional $2000 after they had loaded all of our furniture onto a truck as they said we were over the allotted amount.

There is absolutely no way we were but what could we do. They tried to charge an additional $1000 on the back end to drive over a mountain that they knew from the beginning was there. We were charged for and promised special care for an antique grandfather clock that arrived thrown on top of other jam-packed furniture and completely destroyed.

We had a terrible experience with Best Movers and their agent. They way under estimated the cost. Originally they quoted about 5 thousand dollars. Final cost was double that amount! The moving company they contracted with was very disappointing. They were several hours late and sent 4 people that barely spoke English. The were rough with our belongings. And several items arrived at our house in South Carolina damaged. Including a flat screen TV. Tempurpedic box spring and various other pieces of furniture. Some antiques. I had to pay 7 thousand in cash before they unloaded the truck. When I complained about the damage the mover dispatcher offered me 600 dollars. Which I took. I had been on the phone several times with Best during the move. At each interval I had to initiate the contact. When I finally called at the completion of my move from NY to SC and complained about the damage. I would never recommend them or use them again for any moving services. Despite their assurances of customer service they did not live up to their claim. Their moving company agent was worse. Very rude and only offered me money when I complained and threatened to call Best and report them.

Read this review in its entirety it could be life changing.

First, I'm not an internet complainer. I understand there are people that complain about everything and you cannot make everyone happy.

That said anyone who uses Best Movers of America is going to be abused, offended, threatened and put in a position where they will regret forever choosing the cheapest resource in the marketplace. It will turn out to be the most expensive option in the end with ramifications that render you helpless since they are holding your furniture hostage. I'm compelled to say not only should Best Movers be avoided when choosing a moving company they should NOT be able to do business and investigated by the Attorney General and any agency that sanctions this service. They give honest legitimate business in this industry a bad name.

HERE IS A QUICK OVERVIEW

What is presented on the telephone by a sweet professional account agent is just a way to get you to commit to BEST MOVERS none of it holds up in the end.

Employees arrive argue with each other than one begins to tell you in private that these people are crooks.

An up-selling process begins that is uncomfortable, to say the least.

Merchandise is packed removed and weighed and the disaster begins.

The weight is over and additional charges are assessed even though you were told it was priced by the piece and the space those pieces will occupy.

The phone call is by someone who threatens to remove your furniture from the vehicle if the balance is not paid or worse not deliver it at all.

The threats and abuse are joined by text and voicemails.

Once you realize you have no option but to give in the furniture is delivered.

Then you find out the furniture was loaded in one truck in Florida removed then reloaded in at least one other truck for delivery in VA.

When your boxes arrive it's an absolute nightmare, the boxes since they were loaded, unloaded, reloaded then unloaded again look like they were in a train wreck.

Of course, during the load unload and reload stuff is broken, misplaced and lost.

We had at least $500 in merchandise broken and roughly $1000 in valuables missing including a babies hamper and playpen. This move was for my Daughter and son in law who just had a baby and were moving for the first time in their lives because of a job change.

When I reached out to the agent I originally spoke to they passed me over to the belligerent threatening individual I originally spoke to I sent him an email explaining all the factual details which we have documented along with pictures however almost 2 weeks have gone by without a single email or phone call.

First they give you quote over the phone then send it to you in an email. I good price for moving your house hold items. The next thing they do is tell you they need money down for the truck to even show up but will take this off the price of the move. ( LIE number one). Second they show up LATE all nice and very respectful. They load all your house hold items then tell you, you items took up more than the quote was for. (Second LIE). Charge you 8 times for more then the original quote for the extra space. Then tell you half to pay half with check or money order or cash(mind you, you ready paid for the truck to arrive). Next they show up with your house hold goods. You are told at this point you half to pay cash only and the price is doubled due to the extra things they hauled to your new place, If you do not pay cash now they are leaving with your stuff. After you pay because they know you do not have choice you find out they have broke most of your stuff. So you file a claim and you are told you will get .60 on the dollar for the weight of your items that are broke. never was this to be talked about or explained at anytime during this process. so yes there contracts they have covers them completely to scam people. Don't worry my lawyer has looked at it. so if you work with this company you are a fool. don't be like me and be a fool.

Our process started out perfectly BMOA surpassed all of our expectations until the day prior to the arrival of our belongings. We received the phone call from the driver asking about our parking situation I explained there was no parking allowed directly outside on the side of the street our apt was on, but that loading/unloading was allowed per the leasing office. The driver advised he was not going to do this we would need to pay for a shuttle which would be $400, which was $150 higher than our initial shuttle quote.

I once again called our leasing office they confirmed loading/unloading WAS allowed here. The driver again said no b/c he didn’t feel comfortable with it. I then informed him there was ample public parking on the opposite side of the street which is always clear during daytime hours he said he wouldn’t park his truck there since it was large. I again informed him that this too was allowed (confirmed again with the leasing office)-There are very often construction moving trucks of all sizes there. He refused again, saying we needed to pay $400 or he wouldn’t deliver our things. I reluctantly hung up the phone attempted to contact BMOA via phone email 3 times but was never able to connect with anyone.

The next morning before the movers arrived, I called my contact at BMOA again a man answered. I calmly explained to him the situation. I also told him that if we were being forced to use a shuttle service, I’d at least hope we could go with the $250 quote over the new $400 one. Immediately he got very defensive. He would not stop interrupting me then he told me “I should be lucky he doesn’t charge $1/cubic foot b/c that’s what he should do, so I should be being charged $680” – at no point in ANY of my conversations had a $1/cf charge for a shuttle EVER been mentioned.

When I expressed my frustrations he continued to interrupt me eventually started raising his voice. I placed him on speaker when my husband heard his tone, he took the phone and asked for the man’s name, but the man refused to provide it. When he asked to speak to his manager, he claimed he was the manager. When he asked to speak to the person in charge, he said he was in charge. He then proceeded to hang up on my husband. When the movers arrived shortly after in their U-Haul shuttle, I met them outside & showed them the driveway adjacent to our building, which their smaller truck could fit in. The driver then decided he was no longer “uncomfortable” parking it on the side of the street where I had advised him loading/unloading was approved for trucks of all sizes. To make matters just a bit worse, a handful of belongings were broken to the point where they’re not usable.

They hired some people to come out and move my stuff. When they got to my home they tried to charge me more than what I was quoted. Like $800 more. The moving company told me they would bring my things the next day to North Carolina. I didn't get my things until 7 business days later. They told me they were taking my things to Georgia and then sending them to me. When I found out that my things were in Chicago, I called the owner and told them that i wanted to come and get my things from them in Chicago. he would not give me the address where my things were and he told me that if I came and got my things I would still have to pay them the remaining balance just like if they had delivered my things. Through and all they delivered my things and everything was broken. I sent them a claim about all of my broken things and I called the lady yesterday and she said she didn't have my pictures or the claim and I sent them last week. It was a very bad experience.

Shameful and unfortunate.

The polite representative on the phone is not representative of the service you will actually receive. I had no issues with placing and scheduling the move order but the guys that showed up looked for every angle to increase the cost, so beware of the good pricing as it is a scam to secure you then take advantage of your situation. I provided accurate details of what was to be moved and they insisted that I agree to a much higher cost, even when I insisted that they use the printed order to take what was agreed to they refused and left me stranded. After they cancelled me they lied and said that I cancelled them to keep my deposit. I will seek legal actions for the return of my money. Unfortunately, I had already referred them to someone else (based on my experience on the phone) who also had a terrible experience with the lack of professionalism of the moving team and unreliable schedule.

I have never used movers before and was assured of the quality of their service. I didn't realize I was just talking to a closer. I had a guaranteed estimate of $1700.00 and put a deposit down of $510.

They told me that a call would be made for the box count the day before... I made 4 phone calls and no answer the night before and started calling them at 7 a.m. and not getting through. The movers showed up and told me that I had more than estimated and it would be an additional $200.00...I should have know something was up when he closed the truck and said: We have all of your stuff. I had to give an additional $200 cash on top of the $600 cash I was giving them and they wanted a tip! He had all of these papers and just pointed his finger on where I was to sign, so they could get on the road. The final total for my move was now: $3200!!!

My things stayed on the truck for 13 days! I had to wire them $1300 to guarantee my things for the next day...WOW! nothing showed up and then when they finally called an entire week later to say it was coming the next day. We waited for house before someone called and it was because the truck had broken down on the side of the road---LONG story short we rented a uhaul to put everything on a truck after seeing every box crushed, broken items such as lamps, leather chairs scratched, walked all over my kitchen table with boots on, because it wasn't wrapped in the truck...I was shocked by what we took off the truck. A different truck than what left my house 13 days earlier.

I am now throwing book cases away, and having to pay for things to be replaced, because the box the mover had me sign was the box to not replace anything!

READ the contract carefully and don't trust them! CROOKS and THIEVES.

  • Dec 5, 2018

Hey will get your stuff and take over a week to get to you. Once they have your stuff, they own you. I Was forced to wire cash to them in order for them to bring me my stuff. They had all of my Aunts medical supplies and we were told delivery Nov 3 but we didn't get our stuff until Dec 5th. When they finally arrived they insisted on $175 cash to bring the stuff up the steps. After I had already paid the step fee in the beginning. He started to pack up like they were leaving so I had to run to atm. My dining room table is DESTROYED as is my Chaise and master bedroom set.

I have submitted a claim but I seriously doubt I will get anything from it. Was also told on the phone that if I didn't take down my negative review I wouldn't see my stuff. So I had to wait to post this until after this was over.

They are LIARS and THEFTS! I would NEVER use this company if I were you. Save yourself the headache!

I tried to speak to a supervisor and was no one would speak to me when I was having an issue of being charged $300 extra than the original price.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Donna and Jorge were especially nasty. After speaking to a few Rude representatives, I was told the movers needed all the cash in hand BEFORE they can unload the truck. They wouldn't accept any other forms of payment. If we didn't pay them, they told us we will "take the truck with everything down to the hood and sell it".

And even after we reluctantly paid the overcharged price, some of our items went missing as well.

NEVER use this company.

  • Dec 3, 2018

COMPLETE SCAM! The quote to price change 4 times throughout our process, demanding cash and wire payments. We made the terrible mistake of using them for a cross country move, it took us three weeks to receive our stuff, which employee "George" found to be funny, anytime we would call for an update he would threaten that he would delay the move longer, as we were annoying him. The truck broke down multiple times on it's way here leaving our stuff on the side of the road.

At this point we had to file a police report where they investigated with the repair shop. When our stuff finally arrived the drivers asked for a $100 cash tip before unloading.. They then refused to unload until we tipped. We had over $1,900 in damages and missing items, as everything was literally thrown into a box truck. At times the crew had no idea which items were ours or not. This company is a shell and a fraud, I would not wish this company on my worst enemy! It will only be a matter of time until the BBB shuts them down for the scam that they are.

  • Dec 2, 2018

This place needs to be shut down by the IRS or BBB

I had a quote sent to me after a long phone call with a customer service rep which was upcharged 4000 dollars!! based on an "actual assessment" which isn't even remotely close to the original estimate even if the cubic feet estimated is THE EXACT SAME. So then they claim that we need to tip the drivers for their "hard work"

1.) they show up about 3 hours late

2.) they claim you break your original contract for not tipping drivers?

3.) they take multiple smoke breaks and don't wrap any of the furniture or even move glass or fragile objects

4.) they make many attempts to up charge and run a scam on you

5.) they give you a estimated wait time of lets say a week, well more like 3 weeks which is ridiculous

oh wait it gets better so I call Donna the owner and she says for not tipping drivers I breached my contract so they will no longer accept 30% down instead I need to pay them for the whole move up front Cash only after I was told that I could use a credit card or Personal check.

at this point I asked for my money back instead they say no! we will keep your deposit and keep your items in storage until you complete the payment. So i was held hostage to pay for the absolute worst service I have ever received

but wait it still gets better. after they were 2 WEEKS LATE on moving my items they show up at 11pm and dont get done till about 3 am. half of my items were destroyed and I ask the movers how long they have been doing this and they respond with " this is our first move they hired us off of craigslist to do this move" so they have NON EMPLOYED PEOPLE GOING THROUGH MY HOUSE WITH NO MOVING EXPERIENCE AROUND MY YOUNG CHILDREN AND WIFE

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER 0 STARS

  • Jul 21, 2016

This is a total scam After sending off a deposit based on a competitive quote our move was scheduled Truck was to come st 2 Then 5 Then 6 Then 8 Finally the driver called and said it would be 10pm! The customer service team never returned phone calls At the end when we figured out the scam George and his wife Donna told us it was all our fault! Very bizarre to say the lease Canceled everything on the spot Out my $800 deposite but lesson learned They are simply an Internet company that lines up freelance drivers and crews Absolutely no control over anything Do not get taken in by them.

  • Apr 6, 2016

Do not use Best Movers of America. They have offices located in Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, NYC, Dallas, Los Angeles,DC, NJ They gave us a quote over the phone, then when they get to the apartment the driver said he wanted $2000 more saying that my daughter had too much stuff over the inventory list. I told the driver to leave and then he proceeded to call me and tell me he could get the price lower. So my husband called the office 1-877-962-2662 and talked to Natalie Lewis. They got everything figured out updated the list and my daughter started throwing stuff out and reducing items to keep the shipment down. We thought everything was fine then the driver came back ask us the address for the move up to Tennessee. An hour went by and then the driver called again and said he wanted more cash. Not to call the office and he would hide items. I told him to stop loading and take her stuff off the truck. Then he proceeded to tell me that he had the truck half way loaded and he would call his boss and then we didn't here back from him. The next day my husband called the office and some rude woman saying she was the manager told us if we didn't pay the price they wanted then they would take 10% of my college students items off and put it in storage. The whole time she would not tell us how much and what we owed. When they finally did give us a figure it was you have to pay cash. When the driver called today he told us make sure you have cash. He would not unload one item until we paid him. A small move from this company cost us almost 2200.00. It was a nightmare. A one bedroom apartment. We moved a 2500 square foot home up here for 4800.00 and that was with 20,000 lbs. This whole experience made us feel helpless and made my daughter's move a nightmare. This company is terrible and dishonest. They should be investigated. I learned my lesson not to use a shady company and stick to well known reputable moving company. There customer service is terrible. I will be contacting Better Business Bureau, States Attorney's Office, Attorney Generals a Office. But if one person can be warned it is worth it. Bad Shady Company......
