  • Dec 23, 2021

The big meat over and over to sign up with them and they wanted money up front to pay ahead for leads all right I agreed $100 they were going to give me $400 credit so that's $500 credit in for leads before I knew it I was down to $50 and I had only talked to two people prospects and they were hitting my bank account for $250 and they were going to about to do it again because I said they said I owe them $58 is just unbelievable the trickery they use and I didn't know nobody knows what exactly they're doing so I went out again and I reported them I don't know if I should call the lawyer I want to not do anything with them have nothing to do with him I don't recommend contractors get involved with them because you're going to lose before you make any money they sent two or three or four contractors all fighting for the same lead and they get money from each one. They will hit your personal account if they get their hands on it and you still owe them more money and they throw sometimes five six leads in one day who can respond to five or six leads in one day and you're being charged... watch out for this company folks.

I am a retired Chemist (26 yrs.) who decided to go back into the house painting business that I had done for 20 years before college. I thought I was smart enough to do research before committing to anything but my need for work took over. 10/23/2020

The high-pressure phone call that sounded so wonderful was out of the blue. The "verbal promises" were so impressive, he said I would be getting jobs at the rate of 20-24 leads/month. When I hesitated at the price of $400, he dropped it to $300 and kept saying over and over that, that many leads would easily pay for the service.

At some point I agreed to the $300 that I had to pay right then. I did not have that much in my checking account, so my friend said I could use her credit card for the $300.NOT ONLY THAT, BUT I WAS NOT TOLD THAT THIS WAS FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR!!! Or that there was a huge cancellation fee!!!!

So no, I did not see anything written down. I did not realize until I got an email that it was for $300/month for a year with an automatic renewal. I was just hearing all his fantastic promises about all the work I would be getting. They do not tell new members they are locked into an annual contract, he asked if we had an agreement.

The terms “agreement” and “contract” are used interchangeably, but legally speaking, they are two different things. An agreement is simply an understanding or arrangement between two or more parties. A contract is a specific agreement with terms and conditions that are enforceable.

The emails were noticeably clear about what I owed but there was no mention about All the work I would be getting each month. First email said, “congratulations your agreement is active”, not contract., not until I received it, did I realize I had agreed for a year contract.

I discussed my business and what I wanted to advertise in depth with the sales rep and assumed I would be in the correct category, but I was not. I only do sheetrock and painting, they sent me fake phone numbers that nobody answers and jobs to replace bathtubs, sinks, counter tops, and flooring installs. I do not do any of that!

Angie’s List has only sent me 8 leads in almost 5 months. I have only had one job request that fit my company. So, I did not get another lead for a service I actually provide after the one I did. After emailing them a few times about not getting the correct type of leads, with no response. I could not keep paying for a service that I was told will give me a minimum of 20 leads per month.

About all the reviews, I was told later that the more reviews I had the better. They specifically outlined to me that what I would be paying for is good reviews. They achieve this for you by paying people to write the reviews. They told me to ask friends, family and old customers to write reviews, WHAT?! So, when you see a company with 100 reviews, that does not mean they did 100 real jobs. And the bad reviews can be deleted. Their review system is awful, no investigation whatsoever, no call, etc. Anyone can go on their site and post reviews. They were trying to get me to get 16+ people to leave me reviews on Angie’s List, they said that is the sweet spot.

The lack of information and clear forceful sales techniques have made me feel like I have been completely scammed. They do not provide support for your questions or issues. I am paying for 20-24 leads a month so I want the 20- 24 as I was promised in my field of service. My new small business cannot keep paying for their service when in my eyes they breached the contract!!

My Senior Client Success Manager Bryan Foley was unprofessional when I emailed him regarding canceling my membership. The reason I canceled was because I was getting charged $300 a month but I have had only 1 good lead to pay my monthly expense for Angie's List.

He took 2 weeks to email me back that he cancelled my “Agreement.” He also said unfortunately they could not waive a termination fee because they have no proof of the financial details which were discussed when we were signing up. I was told it would cost me 35% of the year contract, $1260, to cancel. I blocked my bank account.

But unbeknownst to me, Angie’s list took it upon themselves, determined to get their money, they went digging back to find someone or some card to charge to. They charged my friends card without her permission over $1,140 in charges, overdrawing her account and causing numerous overdraft fees and a real embarrassing episode at the grocery store. She had to cancel her card since they would not stop charging it. They Refuse to refund her account, basically holding her cc hostage unless the account holder provides a chargeable card. They did find my account number and debited my account for $840 and still did not correct the debit to her card.

They did not fulfill their promises, they purposely mislead me, I am being charged a total of $3,600 for absolutely zero business.

Angie's List is the Worst Customer Experience I have literally ever had. As I write this, I am contacting lawyers to help recoup OUR loss. This could have been avoided BUT Angie's List failed me miserably.

.. I demand 100% on my money back. This was unfair and quite frankly cruel. I still cannot believe that this company exists! They are the worst and most untrusting service I have ever worked with before. So, the whole "we are acting in our members best interests" thing is bull! They have one interest in mind: their own. This should definitely be a Class Action case as there are hundreds and hundreds of current complaints the same as mine.

Read: BBB, Consumer Affairs, Trust Pilot agreement is grossly unfair. In most cases, the legal system seriously frowns upon contracts that heavily favor one side. These agreements are called 'unconscionable' and contain terms so outrageous that they 'shock the conscious.' In many these cases, one side of the contract obviously has all of the power and might use it to make money while hurting the other side.

I was contacted by a sales rep [whom I cannot identify] that stated I could get Angie's list service for $300 "for the year". I confirmed this several times verbally. I know my budget, and did not have $300 to pay them per month!

After a couple of days, I received an email showing 20 categories of "handyman" activities I was not doing or did not want to be getting calls for. Scot Theobold [my account rep] called me to see how it was going [I may have received 1 customer call]. I explained that I did not like the categories they had me in. He said I could be added to another group for another $250 per month!

That is when he said they were charging me $300 per month! I repeatedly refuted the claim and said that the sales agent did not at any time tell me it was $300 per month. Scot said he would get back to me and confirm what I had said.

Several days passed. and I called Scot, but he was conveniently out of town. When I did connect with Scot again, I was charged $300 for the second month. Then Scot informed me it was illegal to record phone conversations in Washington, and that I could not hear the conversation. That is a bald-faced lie! I was informed the conversation was being recorded and did not ask them to stop recording [wasington state law]!

Later Scot told me I had agreed to a contract for $300 per month.

I told him to cancel my membership, and I received a cancellation fee for $1050. I disputed the second month and the $1050 fee with my bank.

Angies List is a rip-off to vendors, period. I had to cancel my credit card to stop the auto payment collection.

Many of the calls I received were way out of my pre-determined service area as well.

I signed up for a monthly advertising service with Angie’s List. I was promised a service and a fully built advertising profile with custom deals and offers for my company. My customer/client success manager was unresponsive for two weeks and I had no access to the mobile lead app. After four weeks of fighting and asking and requesting and emailing and calling I called the agreement off.

After the agreement was canceled and that the cancellation was agreed to by both parties – – Angie’s List charged me for a second month to days later. I requested refunds for both month 1 and month 2. Month 2 was refunded two weeks later. Month 1 still has not been refunded. I have called and emailed and texted and requested my refund but I am now being a ignored and treated like garbage.

Two years ago (May 2017) I joined Angie's List.

They advertised a change in their policy in late 2017/early 2018, saying the Angie's List WAS NOW FREE. Thus, I was surprised in the summer of 2018 to find that Angie's List had charged me again in May of 2018 (despite their advertising that the service was now free). I tried to challenge the charge but it is nearly impossible to talk with a person at Angie's List. Thus, I just bit the bullet since a few months had passed before I found it.

However, I did not want the same thing to occur in 2019, so I called Angie's List twice in Feb/Mar of 2019 and was actually able to get a person to talk with. I told them about what happened in 2018 and instructed them to take me off any renewal list. I said that I did not want anything to do with Angie's List going forward.

On May 1, 2019, I received a notification from PayPal that I was charged $29.99 from Angie's List for a renewal!!! I tried contacting them this morning, but was not able to speak with a person. I did go immediately to PayPal and filed a dispute, saying that the charge was unauthorized.

I don't know if Angie's List is totally incompetent or if they are purposely scamming people. However, to charge me for a renewal when I specifically contacted them twice earlier in the year to specifically tell them that I did not want anything to do with them is highly frustrating.

Furthermore, is this some sort of bait & switch? They advertise that their service is free and then continue to charge an annual service renewal fee of $29.99.

I recommend people to stay clear of Angie's List, as well as any of the other services that they run under different names.

My angies list review and complaint. Buyer beware. Angies List is a bunch of crooks. Many reasons.

Enrolled my company with Angies list and signed a 1 year contract. Angies list merged with home advisor and by how the company is run and corrupt it is, it shows. So, after I enrolled with angies list, within the first month I got 1 inquiry and it was most likely fake, (something home advisor has done before merging) currently there is a class action suit against both angies list and homeadvisor for the same thing in 2018. Which I am looking into joining if they don’t leave me alone.

Anyway so I believe my first inquiry was fake by how the conversation went with the potential client. But that isn’t the main reason for complaint, it is just showing character of this company. So you pay to be on Angies list, well after 10 months of getting absolutely no results whatsoever, I decided to inquire about canceling my agreement. Which after about 8 months I inquired by email about canceling and didn’t receive a response. Well finally after 10 months I decided to cancel. Was told it would be $90, 30% of the remainder of the contract which would be $250. I only did very little advertising with them as a test run. And even though little, it still cost me over a grand for one fake lead in 10 months. Anyway, I canceled and not shocking as crooked as angies list is, they took $250 from my account, instead of the $90 that was told for early termination. Everything was documented with emails for the early termination fee and of course all documentation of bank records of them straight up stealing.

After making them aware and trying to just pay and be done, my sales rep was actually trying to make it like I owed the $250, after she herself said around $90 in an email, which 30% of 250 is a little shy of $90 which would be correct. But emails sent from her after they tried pencil whipping were to try and justify why it was $250 now, and if I only had 2 months left at $125 and was paying the early termination fee of 30% how could it possibly be $250 which would be the total remainder of the agreement. After a few emails I asked for a billing payment and summary for my total payment history to show her that they were pencil whipping me, which I knew, but wanted it in their own writing. Over 1 month for them to produce this after numerous emails back and forth.

Tried going on angies list to get my c/c info off there because 2 times in 3 days I had to call my bank and cancel their transaction when this first occured. No way for me to access my account to delink my c/c info. It didn’t stop there, I warned them after having to cancel them 2 transactions and told them to delink my card. Well they didn’t, after 4 more attempts to charge my card, I ultimately called my bank and canceled the card. Got numerous emails from them after that they kept trying to charge my card and it wasn’t going through. Of course it wasn’t, you tried stealing and got caught. Anyway, back to a beginning thing I pointed out. First 10 months I got 1 person to look at me on angies list, my second person was the very next day after I canceled. Now, just an assumption, but the timing of someone reaching out on angies list the very next day after I canceled, when for 10 months only 1 inquiry in the very beginning. Makes me wonder, did they attempt that so maybe I would change my mind on not canceling. LOL Most certainly in mine opinion. Thankfully I didn’t go the pay per click like other companies did only to get fake leads. FAKE LEADS and the wonder why there is a class action suit.

I gave the company the opportunity to walk away, the made 1k over 10 months for doing absolutely nothing to bring in leads. Guess if your not paying for clicks, no reason till you cancel to give one a fake one. They got caught stealing, undisputable with all email and bank documentations. Held my credit card hostage, refused to furnish a billing and payment summary for months to hide their pencil whipping. Ect. They have done all this and so much more. Had me cancel credit cards, spend 3-4 hours dealing with emails back and forth, dealing with my bank. For what, $250. They were told to walk away or my reviews on them would be posted. I didn’t want to spend time doing this and just wanted to be done, they claim I owe $160 cause I didn’t dispute the $90 with my bank and they got that, they are not owed more. And yet today I got a call from a collections department about it. So now its time for me to post my reviews and complaints. They should of left it be, they got their money owed and still are insisting and harassing on money they are not due.

Run down

2 leads in 10 months, 1 in the beginning to make it like they generate something and 1 the day after I cancel service. Both most likely fake leads as they are being sued by numerous companies for that.

Theft of money not due and holding credit card information after being told to delink it.

Over a month of demanding a billing and payment history

Threats by them about affecting my credit in writing through email

Hours of dealing with this, my time is money as well

Anyone dealing with angies list and have been defrauded by fake leads and over charged, should look into jumping on the class action suits against them

About 7 years ago I tried this service. First transaction was a disaster. Paid $99 to have someone recalibrate my garage door and opener. Got a time period of 8:00-12:00. Of course the guy never showed up. I called to cancel and get reimbursed. It was a nightmare. Some how it was my fault. So to give me a credit I had to provide proof of purchase(?) and what attempts I made to work with the merchant?????? They set the appt up. They had my paperwork. They just wanted to make the whole crediting process miserable!!!!! Well I cancelled and thought that was the end of it. I was checking my PayPal account for something else and discovered they have been billing me $31.20 over the last 6 years. I called. Of course the "canned" apologies. They ended up giving me credit for ONE YEAR!!!!! If you cancel with them you better get a new charge card because if they don't hit their investors numbers, they just go back into their vault and resurrect an old/cancelled member and start billing them. In summary I have lost over $400 to sweet wholesome looking Angie. Use local reviewers. They are more accurate and less likely to screw you like a national firm like "Angies List".

Angie’s List proves with Crystal Bay Caterers, Angie’s heart is with the companies she rates, not the consumer she claims she is out to help.

A similar review was sent to both Yelp and Angie’s – on Crystal Bay Caterer, both were given a 0 or F

“Like XXXXXX. review, Mr. Sam LoPiccolo came through for me in the last minute for a small party. Unfortunately, the experience was more in line XXXXXX. review- food was barely okay, but a people got sick. It was so bad I contacted Ms. XXXXXX (who was extremely helpful and professional), Operations and Review Specialist, Office of Customer and Government Relations Division of Hotels and Restaurants, Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. She pointed out Crystal Bay Caterer report sanitation report online, it speaks for itself - I saw Crystal Bay is rated as a Risk level 2: This is the definition she provided me of Risk Level 2:

* Cooks raw animal food and cools any cooked/heated TCS food; OR

* Conducts a special process [ROP; growing sprouts; smoking TCS food for preservation; curing TCS food; uses additives or components to make a food nonTCS (such as using vinegar to achieve a pH of less than 4.

2 for sushi rice); holding live clams, mussels, oysters or scallops in a water tank; custom processing animals for personal use (e.g., cook your catch)]; OR

* Serves any raw or undercooked animal food - requires a consumer advisory

Per Ms. XXXXXXX help I processed an official complaint, #2018025311 on 5/15 - as all of Crystal Bay Caterer Sanitation reports, it is online; but this summary is not an inspection report, but the response to my specific above complaint.

"Violation Observation Intermediate - Certified Food Manager or person in charge lacks (which is Chef Sam LoPiccolo ) knowledge of foodborne illnesses and symptoms of illness that would prevent an employee from working with food, clean equipment and utensils, and single-service items."

I was contacted by Angies list to advertise with them I was told be the account rep Jeremy they can put my business in front of thousands of customer just wainting and wanting my services, and that Houston becasue of Harvey has so many customer and need and not enough contractors so this would be a good time for one low monthly fee. Hmm I said but why and how would they contact me..I was told that my company would be on the first page and that customer always call the first person they see and that would out company and the cost would be only $400 dollars a month....what that is a lot of money. He continured to stay I would see a quick return on my investment and the phone would ring right away.

Jeremey said that I have nothing to worry about once I am sent up and a back ground check was done. I did not like that price and told him we are just a small business that is a lot of my he then drop it to $300 but I would not get Houston, I reside in Houston he said ok I can do it all for $350 a month for one year. And he assurned me it would work. I said but what about the people who has been adverting and had reviews Jeremy said oh don't worry about that you are going to be on the 1st spot that are going to see you. I was not sure.

I told him I can not afford this money if the phone does not ring he told me no it will ring. So I give my my information to do the back ground check and within 30 min he was done??? How can you do a back ground check that fast?? He said not give me the money I still was not sure but I ask him If it does not work I want my money back he said it will work.

After he took my money the phone stop ringing I had no idea what to do, I had call him this time he sent me a link to sent up with no help and it did not work well. I decided to do some research and that is when I found out that I just been rip off. It is hundred of us out there they take you money and for get about you. I called and cancel Jerermy ingnored me about he sent a email to give it time. No

I then call the office and talk to Merrdieth and told her to cancel me she said she would and I never go a cancelation later I called again and talk to a supervior who told me oh look you have been advertining with us for 14 days really WITH NO ONE CALL FROM A CUSTMER REALLY?? I was no he lied. He told me I had a contract and that they are going to keep my money. $355.39 they stolen from me for nothing. Listen to me DO NOT give these people your cc number they are Thieves and will rip you off. Stay away now I have to sue to get my money back.

Had a $30/yr "Gold" membership but just received a bunch of advertisements for contractors, etc., most of them un-verified. Useless company, so I called to cancel. No human, but system looked up mbrship by phone #. Said my mbrship didn't have phone support. Had to cancel via chat, which kept chat operator kept ending while I typed answers to her questions (such as "Yes" & wouldn't give cancellation confirmation #. Told me I'd get it by e-mail. I get tons of advertisements from Angie's List, but no cancellation e-mail EVER.

Months later, they charged my PayPal acct ($$ come from bank acct I'm trying to close) on "Auto-renewal (which I did NOT set up, ever). Then, when I called (even tried "gethuman"), still didn't have phone support. Had to call PayPal to get refund, which won't put money back in the bank acct for several days. Couldn't dispute, because the transaction had just happened and was final one hour ago.

Still never reached Angie's List except it took 3 chat attempts to finally get a cancellation/refund confirmation #. Chat operators ask for e-mail & phone #, allow 2 seconds, then end the chat. 3rd chat, I started with DON'T END THIS CHAT UNTIL I AM FINISHED.

I'm a senior citizen. I type fast, but apparently not fast enough for Angie's List's chat personnel. They're happy to take my money without permission, but even a "Gold" mbrship doesn't rate answering a phone call or allowing time for an actual chat.

BEWARE! The only time I DID get a human was when I told the phone system I wanted to advertise on Angie's List, and he couldn't transfer me fast enough to "customer service." One hour on hold before custome service timed out & hung up. This is an advertising sales company (says so right on their CA state corporate filing), NOT a customer service-related company.

I purchased an offer on Angie's List for $949 to have my electrical panel replaced. I did not realize they had a 30 refund policy. I did not do my research. I thought the contractor would need to provide the service or Angie's List would refund the money.

It took about a week to schedule the electrician to do a quick inspection of my current box. They asked me to have the utilities company to come out and indicate the box could be replaced in the same location. That took me about 3 weeks. Then the electrician came back out a week later and discussed options. Unfortunately, the options I needed required additional costs that were out of my budget. I still took some time to consider the options because I really need the work done. In the end, I decided I could not afford it and called Angie's List to get a refund.

Unfortunately, my basic memebership does not include phone support, so I began a series of online chats and emails with Angie's List.

Angie's List is not willing to refund my money because it was more than 30 days since I purchased the offer. I have tried reasoning with them and tried contacting them via phone with no luck. The only responses I am able to get are by email and they take 2 days to respond. Each response is basically the same...

"Unfortunately, since this offer is outside of our 30 Day Refund Guarantee it is not eligible to be refunded. We are are only able to offer refunds on unused deals within the first 30 days after the purchase. "

I am not sure what to do, but I cannot afford to have $949 taken from me without any good or services provided. I still need my electrical box replaced and am now unable to afford it.

Any suggestions from this community would be appreciated.

Angie's list is now FREE. What a joke. This shows you how much is was worth when they charged you to join!

Can you believe it was never worth anything! They don't check out the companies they promote. They only promote companies willing to advertise on their site. What a joke. Do they think consumers are that dumb?

Don't fall for anything on Angie's list. Fake reviews (never verified). Competitors can post nasty reviews about their competition.

Angie - you are a con-artist.

Angie - you blew it with Angie's list. Now you are blowing it with HomeAdvisor.com.

Get off the internet you con-artist. Stop counting on the ignorance of consumers to believe your B.S. on both sites.

You'll say anything for a buck. Lead consumers to the right websites - like the www.BBB.com site that actually only allows justified and verified reviews.

You are an A** Angie. Nobody is falling for your crap info on your crap websites. You are a menace to the hard work small business owners in this country. How do you look in the mirror and think what you are doing is not considered domestic terrorism?

You allow that on your site when you don't verify anything on there! You are a joke.

I used Angies list to find businesses when I moved. Three leakers had great reviews and did miserable work. Angies list is very easy to post good reviews even if you never bought the service.

Two different businesses I bought services from told me how Angie;s List uses high pressure sales on businesses. If a business buys advertising then their business will automatically pop to the top of the search list. One was a cleaning service and the other was a retail flooring company.

Of the 5, three were so bad that I will never use Angie's List again. One is a "computer business". The guy claimed to have 23 years experience and had only 5 star reviews. He claimed to know hardware. The problem with my computer turned out to be hardware. Meanwhile he destroyed the operating system. He replaced with another windows os but didn't have the authentication key for it. So it is useless. He also whined and blamed me for his "work". The reviews on Angie's List are spaced one months apart for oever a year. Come on! That is just plain ridiculous. They are obviously planted.

Another was a "contractor". All 5 star reviews. Nice guy but really inexperienced. He doesn't even know how inexperienced he is. He painted a room without portable lights that professional painters use. Without those lights you just can't see well enough to paint evenly. There are steaks in the paint where he didn't apply it right. And he claims to be a "contractor".

He left 2 open gallon cans on paint on my carpet with no protection from spills. He had another job that "had to be finished" so he had 2 friends come to finish the paint job. The work was amateurish and needed touch ups and clean ups. He is not experienced enough to be honest with a customer. But he has all 5 star reviews on Angie's list.

The third leaker is an "organizing" service. Fantastic description & all great reviews on Angie's list. I hired this guy to help clean and organize my garage. I had a plan. Instead he started pressuring me to give things away -- to him. He even wanted a brand new 7 ft X 9 ft rug. He never did the organzing. He never used my plan. He just kept pointing at things and saying "what are you going to do with that?". He was ripping me off. He has a friend who runs a resale store. He was stocking his friend's store. He has great reviews on Angie's.

When you can buy a high ranking for crappy service a customer is smarter to stay away from Angie's List.

Joined Angie's list to help grow my business, joined Angie's list to help grow our business, as in me and my wife. Been in roofing business for 18 years and I have help tons of home owner with there insurance claims and get the work done for them. So I though to get my referral business going I would join Angie's list. So we did and as we did they told us about this program that we could join that would help us get phone calls and it cost 268 a month to join and it would put us on top of the other roofer in area that did not pay. Now remember we had no client that called in and gave referral so we got this cause we thought we get calls. What I did not know is that we had to have 5 referral before we went on the board as certified and I spent 268 of my family money per month thinking I get calls to talk to home owner about a chance to help them with there Roof issue. So I paid it and when they sent me the signed docs online I will be honest I did not read it.

I went by what the representative for Angie's list told me. That was my mistake cause after 30 days and no phone calls I stop paying it cause I was not getting calls and then I get a call from Angie's list that told me I was in a contract and then they explained how it worked and I at this point got 3 referral to put on the referral board but I still needed two more. So after a long talk with my sales manager they were going to go Thur the recorded calls and listen to how the lady sold me on the 268 a month and to my complete surprise I was removed from Angie's list with no warning or anything and I can not believe this at all. I thought for sure this company was straight forwArd and let the consumer tell there story about contractor but like all things in life again it's about money money money money and once again the good contractor are done wrong by the bad once. The really crazy part about all this is that Angie's list wrote a story about door to door roofer being a scam and I could not believe that they take money from roofing contractor and then turn around and write a false story about it. I've been in the roofing business for 18 years and I can tell you over a million story of people who got there Roof done by door to door sale people and not only got a great roof and job but saved money on there deductible. This is why I'm writing the story for people who think Angie's list is a good company to work with. Be warned cause I am living proof of you don't pay them they will cut you off.

Angie's List is a complete Fraud. They took money from many companies - they manipulated ratings - posted fake reviews and hurt companies that wouldn't pay them for their services. Read the reviews - look at how corrupt Angie Hick's is when it comes to hurting American Business. Fake reviews - lies on commercials and says reviews are verified ... this is totally false. No review is verified. Any competitor can post a fake review about your company and you can't get this review removed. I suspect Angie's list posts reviews against your company if your competitor pays for their marketing. It's all fake and all a big scandal.

The word is out! Now she is offering to allow consumers to review her work for free. It's a joke. All the nasty fake reviews that hurt America and American business... it's a joke. Angie Hicks should be deported.

Now she is doing the same thing with another website since Angie's List is dying!

Contractors and builders can visit her new site... pay a few bucks and get hundreds of free positive reviews. However, when you stop paying them they not only remove the reviews ... they post negative reviews against you! Criminal! She should be arrested. She's an A**! No other way to put it.

I signed up to advertise on Angie's list. They told me they were dropping their paywall and would be making use of the millions of visitors they get that can't search.

It turns out they didn't drop their paywall you still have to signup, you don't pay money but you have to pay with your information (email address, name, number etc). Meaning that it would never achieve enough searches to make it worthwhile for me to advertise on.

They also told me I would be getting a top spot in the category but it wasn't, it was a rotating ad that is useless because there are so few people in the category I already have a top spot without the ad.

I would suggest staying far away from this company. They have their contractors niche but nothing else.

In 2014 my wife found him thru the internet (first dumb mistake). She believed the reviews he posted on his own website which is now defunct (second stupid mistake). He also claimed to be the building inspector for Baldwin and a licensed electrician so he gave us some references to call (probably relatives). Then we gave him a large deposit to do the work and was told to go to Lumber Liquidators to look for materials that we would buy and deduct from the final bill using his discount. (third idiotoc mistake).

He has no workers if his own. He uses whomever he can find and pays them low wages to keep his costs down. They have no skills, or - he subs out the work and disappears with no way to contact him. (He leaves his voicemail box full)

He promised a bathroom renovation in 7 days. I estimated 15 working days. 4 months later, I finally found him thru his old business partner Phil. The subcontractor came over and tried to finish what he could but the money was gone and he had to appease 5 other customers that Steve sold a bill of goods to.

In the end, I had to hire another contractor to redo everything. The contractor found dangerous structural conditions with beams being cut away with no replacment or drilled out for plumbing waste pipes to the point of no longer being load bearing. My $15,000 job turned into a $40,000 job and took almost a year to have my bathroom back to normal!

We will never be that trusting again. The guy is a lowlife and I can't believe he is still alive after the way he treats people.

I signed up with angies list after being told that i would be visible to over 10,000 members.

I payed for 2 months of advertising my painting business and received no calls from this add.

At this time i found out that angies list was also running a lead generator service on their website.

So i was being charged $84 a month to be on a list that angies list was intentionally directing members away from in order to make more money for themselves. I requested a cancelation and they informed me there would be a 35% early termination fee. So i cancel my credit card that they had on file to eliminate any further rip off. Now they keep hounding me for payment and threaten third party collection.

I am a business owner who has excellent reviews on Angies list. I have been a member since 2012. Last year we serviced a customer who is very mentally unstable. She started leaving reviews for my business over a course of a year. Each time I filed a rebuttal with copies of her emails her story would change and get bigger and bigger.

Stories such as- I never received a contract. I sent her a copy of her contract and her statement "Where do I sign" email which was 4 weeks prior to her service.

Next she had to reschedule and was not ready for my service because her father died. I posted her facebook page to which it stated her father died 9 months prior to her service. She then changed her story and said she was preparing her fathers house for a sale. I again posted her facebook to which it showed her vacationing in Albany and also her email stating she had to reschedule do to her vacation.

The list goes on and on. While searching Angies list for something else I found her review she left last year and responded to it. I also stated I was sick of her lies and was turning this over to my attorney for a lawsuit. I was then contacted by a very rude Kyle Mathes Integrity person from Angies List who informed me that if I sue her or take these issues to my attorney Angies list would drop me from their search. I offered to show my evidence and the insanity and slander that I have been dealing with and he refused. Angies list is holding business owners hostage. They have no right to tell me I cannot sue a person that is effecting my business montarily by a lying mentally insane woman. Sure I filed my rebuttal by why should I have a negative review on my business that is not true.

Angies list is a scam. All they care about is collecting their 10.00 a year from people. Rest assure the next time they call me to advertise at 300.00 a month I will be hanging up on them.

Total Ripoff! Angie's List ... read the reviews:

Google search "Angie's List Complaints. Forbes, Consumer Affairs, CBS News... all report massive losses and total stock failure of their business model.

It's a total scandal.

Don't pay for fake reviews. Read the reviews. What a scam! Buyer beware. Total Joke. Angie should be put in jail.

For a company that claims to help consumers, we need to watch out for AngiesList. Forced sort order to display ads at top of results is reprehensible. And they make it VERY difficult to cancel or change auto pay on account. I give AngiesList a grade of "F."

I was call by my account rep saying I need to help you bury those bad reviews? After seeing, and searching through my customer point of sale system. I reply, those are not my customers. I don't want them buried, I want them removed. My rep said they would check into it and get back to me. That never happened even w/ a reminder. I asked for a refund but again not reply. If they can't police their own angie list members, how can their reviews be trusted.

Started annual contract for "storefront" with angies list on 7/22/2015 due to a solicitation call to our office. During the setup process, explained that we only wanted Pierce County (area around our new office location). 1.5 months go by without a single call (not the issue). I was told that I would receive an email when someone contacted me through their site, I continued to look about weekly as I expected some type of communication through their site. Mid Sept 2015 received an email from angies list stating I did not contact a customer within two days. I logged into our account and sure enough there was a message in the message center. Customer purchased something through angies list site. I responded right away and agreed to schedule one of the requested times from the customer. Then later that day, I was researching the location and found it in NORTH KING County. I never agreed to even leave Pierce County. To protect our name, I decided to do the job anyway (spent 3 hours on the road). Completed the job and the customer was very happy we were able to keep the requested time and complete the required task. Then I received the customer payment notice from angies list. They withheld 3% (which I agreed to in the contract) and sent me the difference. However, angies list did not charge any sales tax to the customer. Since sales tax is based on area, we cannot determine the sales tax before having the address of service. When I contacted our rep (Richard) he stated he would remove King County from the website, later received email stating it was corrected (9/30/2015 8:42am email). Now I have spent another month trying to work with angies list for over 1.5 months and still no resolution. I have allowed them another two weeks to attempt resolution, but nothing is done so decided to file a complaint with your office

And now another 3 weeks later, I do not even receive a return call for my messages or email. It appears that Angies List just thinks they can just ignore people and keep drawing money. While not providing the service that is listed in the contract.

I was always reluctant to join Angie's List despite all advertisement on TV. Then I found they offer the SUMMER20 code discount on annual membership, so I thought I might give it a shot. I also paid with my Paypal account and got additional 20% dicount. Nice. Then I found they charged me for additional amount without me approving the service. They explained on the phone that was for additional customer support. The customer service rep. was kind enought to waive it. Without confessing that it was deliberate. She further agreed to show on my account that (not automatically renewable). The account still show (automatically renewable). I am not sure what more I will get out of this company. It is also necessary to indicate that unless you can find how to cancel all automatic email alerts and email notifications, you will find your email inbox filled up with junk mail and advertisement.

Trust me, you are better without angie's list.
