I took my wave runner to All Action Watersports to be repaired. After a week they called me to tell me the boat needed a new Bendix (part of the starting system). I was quoted three hours of labor (@ $115.00/hr.) and approx $140.00 for the part, for a total of under $500.00. I told them to do the work.
The next day they called to say the starter would need to be replaced also, quoting about $1,060.00 total for all work. (They had removed the front cover of the motor housing- approx. eight screws to remove). I told them NOT to do the work. They called later to ask if I wanted the parts re-assembled, I told them NO.
Upon picking-up my boat I was given an invoice for $430.00 - 3-1/2hrs. of labor at $115.00/hr. plus tax. This is just for removing the front cover of the motor housing. I'm sure anybody reading this that knows anything about these boats is laughing at the absurdity of this bill. The service manager at the dealer where I subsequently had the boat repaired suggested that it would take no more than 30 minutes to remover the motor housing cover.
The worse part of the whole experience is that the fiberglass hull of the boat was damaged while in their care. This is a boat which I took good care of for 18 years - and it got damaged for the short time they had it. It's obvious to me the damage done (fiberglass damage on both sides of the hull) was more than simple carelessness but complete lack of concern for their customers' property. Of course, the manager denied any responsibility for the damage.
As a side note the boat was transported, by them, between their two dealer locations, the other one being Seaville Motor Sports in Seaville NJ. The employee at Seaville Motor Sports was polite and helpful, the manager at All Action Watersports not quite so.
