Airtech Radon Services, Inc. Reviews

  • Oct 14, 2017

In January 2016, I hired Airtech Radon Services to install a radon mitigation system in my basement before finishing it into a playroom for my 3 children. At the time the radon level in my basement read 8.8. After installation, Airtech Radon performed a radon test in their own private lab and declared the radon level in my basement to e 2.7, which they declared was "The level is within the recommendation of the PA DEP." I paid $60,000 to have my basement finished into a playroom.

The following fall, I decided to retest the radon levels in my basement. I performed 3 separate tests, which came back at 6.7, 7.6 and 8.8, all above the level of 5 at which USEPA recommends mitigation to avoid increased risk of lung cancer. I contacted Airtech, who came out and ran an additional radon test, the results of which came back at 8.9, higher than the reading in my basement prior to the installation of the mitigation system by Airtech.

Now you may note from airtech's website that Airtech offers a "lifetime guarantee without an addiotnal purchase" Great, right? Not so great. Here is the response I got in an email from Airtech. "The next step would be to install additional piping near the existing system and connect into the original radon pipe or to see what the level of the long term test is.

If you would like to start with the piping, Brian did mention that the basement area is finished around the radon pipe so the drywall would need to be cut out in order to access the radon system and allow enough room to install more piping. The work to the system is covered under the warranty, but we are not responsible for any work that would need to be done to the drywall."

Yes, you read that right. Airtech will provide the $12 of PVC pipe from home depot at no charge under its warranty but the $60,000 you spent finishing your basement into a nice game room that they now need to rip out to install that piping because they didn't do their job properly in the first place? That is on you.

I responded and indicated that I found their solution to be unacceptable. They did not respond. I filed a complaint with the better business bureau, the PA DEP and the state attorney general's office but Airtech refused to offer anything more than the $12 in pipe. I made a comment on their facebook page, but they blocked me. NOT the type of company I would recommend doing business with. Horrible customer service in addition to some shady/dishonest advertising.

Also quite the coincidence that the only radon test to come back below the EPA's action level was the one Airtech performed iimmediately after installation of their system and upon which they based their claim that the air in my basement " within the recommendation of the PA DEP" I won't come right out and say its fraud but it makes a person wonder. Do yourself a fabor and look elsewhere for your radon needs.
