AFC Home Club Reviews

My AFC three month waiting period is up and my 19 year old dishwasher continues to ruin glassware and finished surfaces on washable pottery, no matter how many mitigating actions I have taken. I also wanted to schedule spring maintenance on my HVAC system.

To my complete surprise, the phone person I reached at AFC said I was not eligible for having anyone look at the dishwasher because the condition is preexisting (it is old and the condition has existed before I signed up). The degradation of the dishwasher has continued, there are new issues that were not part of the first issue, but, NO, they would not cover it.

As it is, everything in my house is pre-existing. The house is on the U.S. Historic Register. My home was built before 1881 and was remodeled from the ground up in 2000. I communicated the information in the sentence above and asked about it when i signed up with AFC. Everything in this house built, before 1881 and remodeled in 2000, is preexisting!

It is absolutely unethical for AFC to have taken me on as a client. They should have denied me and told me that my home is not suitable for the program they offer (and I am now not quite sure if their program is suitable for anyone).

At this time I am requesting a complete refund including the three months charges AFC has taken during their so-called waiting period, which should be called a gouging period. I am clearly requesting that my contract be withdrawn and all monies paid from Jan. 5 through March 5, 2021 be refunded.

I was misled to believe that my older home and the existing appliances would qualify for their service. I revealed the age of my home and the year of the remodel. If there were restrictions, I should have been informed about them at that time. Based upon positive consumer ratings, misleading promotional materials and advertising, I clearly misunderstood AFC services offered. The FCC should also investigate them.

Clearly their deliriously happy customers (if this claim is true) must have new homes and new appliances. I am definitely not getting what I signed up for and have paid for during the "waiting" period (some may call it the rip off period).

With significant authority, I can tell you, the reader, that AFC has no business touting consumer satisfaction with the service they "don't offer", or claim-to-offer, but retract when you request service. AFC has broken every inviolate rule when it comes to brand building and service to the consumer. They have not earned their claim to be number one in value. They offer NO service or highly conditional service most likely articulated in the rules and regulations that were never sent to me. There is nothing about my experience with this company that would allow me to even hint at the phrase, “good value.” Everything about AFC is poor.

AFC is a horrible value for the money as the consumer is ripped off, quite literally.

My washing machine began to leak, so I called America's 1st Home Warranty and asked if they could send someone over to look at it. A few days later a man came to see what was wrong with it. When he got here he saw it was a Whirlpool Cabrio. He told me he never worked on this type of machine, but he looked underneath anyway. He said he couldn't find anything wrong with it, but since he never worked on that type of machine he wasn't going to charge me for the visit, which was very nice of him. I called AFC and told them of the problem and asked if they could send someone who did work on that brand of washing machines. They told me to look around and find someone in my area who could work on that. I had an issue with AFC in the past (which they didn’t pay anything at all for it) and I told them to send someone themselves, after all, wasn't that what I paid them to do? They said they would try to find someone. Later on that day I got a call and that person told me she was looking all over the place, and either they were too far from my home to come repair it, and those who were closer would not come for one reason or another. She suggested I should call them myself and see if I could get someone to come, pay them myself and they would reimburse me depending on the work that had to be done. I did not want to do that, because I felt it was their responsibility to pay for the work on the machine themselves. I should only have to pay for the inspection. She gave me a list of numbers she called. I called each one, and they all refused to come unless I paid for it myself. They all said they wouldn't work on it because they didn't think AFC would pay them and they would only accept my money. Someone I called finally came (who would also accept only my money for the work), and he looked at it. He told me the machine was completely shot and couldn’t be repaired. I was better off buying a new one. This washing machine was only 8 years old and I paid almost $800.00. I had previous warranty companies and when I had to replace the last machine they gave me $500.00 to replace it. It was like pulling teeth to get just $200.00 for this one, and that’s because AFC was feeling generous. They said they were only obligated to give me $150.00. They said because it was 9 years old (the man I spoke to didn’t seem to know math, because I bought this machine in April of 2009 and it broke down in June of this year), that was all they were going to give me. I gritted my teeth and said okay. I just bought a new one and this one is costing me over $600.00 (and that’s one of the cheaper ones). I will never, ever, ever, ever use this company again once this contract ends. Buyer beware, don’t trust a wolf with sheep’s coating.

We learned that AFC would only pay for a garbage disposal and not the labor. At that point, we realized this outfit is in the business of promising big and delivering small. We repeatedly sent letters per the terms of the contract asking for a refund but never received it. After e-mailing an inquiry today, the response was that their policy allows only a refund back to the credit card used for payment on the contract. I no longer have a credit card with that issuing bank nor do I remember which bank it was nor do I have another card from that bank. It's been so long since that card was canceled that I no longer have records for it.

In constant back and forth e-mails today as I explained about the closed credit card, repeatedly asking for a check, I have been told they will only credit that closed credit card, and they will then consider the refund has been paid. I'm about to have a stroke over this. Here is the last e-mail from Kristin Lewis at AFC:

"If you pay by the card you will be refunded to the card and it will be the credit issuer's responsibility to place this onto your new card or send a check. I understand you closed your relationship with them but this doesn't change the fact of how you paid for the membership and it is not my duty to change my policy because of a card you open or close."

Kristin Lewis issued a heartless, couldn't-care-less ultimatum that my refund will go into a bank somewhere, and if it is lost, she bears no responsibility, whether or not it gets back to me. It's a take-it-or-leave it, middle-finger response. She goes home with a clean conscience.

It has been so long since I canceled that credit card that I no longer have any records on it. This is a terrible business that has absolutely no regard for its customers or how its business is viewed by potential new customers.

I strongly advise anyone considering this company and its so-called product to avoid it like the plague. They are not the kind of upstanding people I am used to dealing with.

This is a total scam. You pay a lot and if you actually need repairs, they either do not return your calls, or they come up with a reason for not paying. Note that they belong to the Atlanta BBB, another total SCAM. They back their members even if they are scammers like these guys. Further, there is a so-called consumer site - "Consumer Affairs." This AFC BELONGS to that site and and my negative review does not show - only bogus positive reviews. When I demanded a refund, they sent me a couple dollars. I am going to file a complaint with the FTC. If you have been ripped off, please contact the FTC. Here is the link:

Total Scam Home Warranty should be the company name

Well, I have to join the "should have read the reviews team".. Simple pool motor went south 6 months into my new home with existing equipment. $575 for the warranty, that included the pool equipment, $60 for their tech to come out and confirm and then they deny the claim saying it's too old and normal wear and tear. Well what isn't? How do these people stay in business?. 30 minutes on hold only for their rep to read from their contract, a small line in their contract you get after you buy that says they don't cover unknown or pre existing conditions. REALLY? This just means they can deny anything that might cost them anything. I hope your company sinks without trace. Shame on you Principal: Mr. John B. Craddock, CEO • Ms. Kristin Lewis, General Manager.

I was told by the sales person I could cancel within 30 days after I review their documents. I canceled by sending 2 emails and by phone. To date no response received. Purchased 06/28/2016. Canceled 07/21/2016 via email, followup email on 07/25/2016 which resulted in a phone call from the original sales person: Craig Powell America's First Choice Home Club Personal Account Representative 866.242.0629 Ext 8707 678.389.8707 address 1337 Canton Rd. Suite B Marietta, GA 30066; During this phone conversation was told I should try it and could cancel at any time if after trying it I still don't like it. I confirmed I still wanted to cancel. I was then told that since it had been after 14 days I now had to send a certified letter as outlined in the documentation that was sent to me. This was a lie. I have the documentation and there is nothing about this over 14 day requirement. In fact there is nothing that specifies how a cancellation could be sent. After reviewing the documents again I sent another email telling Craig that what he had told me in our phone conversation was not in the documents. This is 4 attempts to cancel and to date no response has been received.

Great Service

I have had two different companies before AFC. My fridge stopped working on Christmas day (Friday) and AFC had a technician at the house to fix the problem on Saturday. This is the first company that does what they say when they say it. Thanks AFC.

I purchased the Gold Plan with America's First Choice Home Club and I paid in full the annual fee. Two months after I decided to go with their company, they decided that they were not going to handle a claim that I filed with their company to get my forced air heating fixed with needed a new pump. On top of the fee that I paid them, they expect me to pay additional money to get an annual inspection of my equipment. I was out of town for a month and I returned home, my heating system was not working. With Christmas and every place closed for the holiday; I did not have ttime to get an inspection done. Be aware that if you cancel your contract with them in addition to your refund being pro rated they also charge a cancellation fee of $50.00. Also, their annual fee for the Gold Plan which covers everything is about $500.00

I have been with a few home warranty companies and they are all the same. They are happy to sell you a service contract with them; but when you need to file a claim they make it extermely difficult to try and get anything repaired, plus keep you waiting weeks to have any repair approved and get the situation fixed. As far as I am concerned I feel ALL home warranty companies are a riip off and I will take my chances on my own. At least paying myself and not having to go through a warranty company I will probably get faster service.

If you decide to go with a home warranty company; good luck. Most people I know have gotten disgusted with them and do not renew them.
